If they want to keep Norman on his toes then offer him a 1 yr contract for 500k. Take it or leave it. If he stays they save 300-350k on his current price plus the uncertainty of his future may keep him focused moving forward.

If he declines then see ya or if he signs elsewhere then all good too

Sorry I can’t agree. With Jackson Ford on the outer we only have one genuine backrower in the team & Tariq isn’t playing well at all. Why spend money on a position we’ve got depth in when we desperately need to sign 2 good backrowers? Sure maybe de Belin comes back but there’s no guarantee he’ll be the same player after 2 1/2 years out of the game.

It’s all well and good to say we have the depth but are these young fellas ready for 6 months of week in week out 1st grade??

I wouldn't say Ford is on the outer, he's just struggling with form and maybe adjusting to real coaching. He's only 23 and signed until the end of 22. Work in progress. Tariq is also not playing well and maybe suffering the same as Ford, however, at 31, he can't afford to be too long out of form. As i said on another thread, i'd be very tempted to move Bird to Tariq's edge and maybe Tariq from the bench at this stage of his career.
Plus, as I've said before, we've got some good edge forwards coming through in Sherab, O'ofou and Gale. Of course they need time maybe just like Ford.

Salary cap management isn’t easy... I’m just saying it’s difficult to justify good money for Norman when we’re deficient elsewhere.

Personally I think Sullivan will be first grade ready in 2022 so there’s no need to keep Norman at the club even at a much lower contract amount. Time to move on

NORMAN TURNS DRAGONS FATE AROUND

Seven months ago, Corey Norman was one of the most criticised halves in the competition. It looked almost certain that he wouldn’t be re-signed by the Dragons when his contract expires at the end of this year.

However, in his first three games of this season, it seems Norman has managed to change some minds at the Red V.

Wide World of Sports reports the 30-year-old is “getting close” to a contract extension, while Ritchie also believes Norman could very well land a new contract with the Dragons — but just like Milford, he’ll have to cop a pay cut.

“If you asked me six weeks ago I would have said he’s probably going to end this year on his $800,000, the dragons won’t re-sign him and Corey will wonder off to another NRL club or maybe even England,” Ritchie said.

“However, he’s started the year exceptionally well.

“There’s no doubt that Corey Norman would need to take a haircut in terms of his next contract, he might have to accept around $400,000 to $500,000.

“There’s been no movement yet from the Dragons but I am told what was totally off the table six weeks ago is now being discussed internally as to whether they can get Corey back again for a year or two on a reduced wage.

“Certainly his form this year has been excellent and his future prospects in securing a club — whether that be staying at the Dragons or moving on — have been enhanced greatly with a couple of really handy showings.”

Needs to be dominant and play well for at least half the season before I would resign him ..... Just my opinion ......

Norman is playing for his football future but hopefully not with Saints. We have Sullivan waiting in the wings currently on about a quarter of Normans salary.

No matter what Norman does from here on, he is doing it for his own survival. Griffin is a smart coach and knows that there is more value pairing Sullivan with the Club Captain. Sullivan will line up next to Bird, a very experienced and talented player.

Amone has been killing at SG Ball as well he’s above that level now.

Norman yas a high percentage of being re-signed atm, of course things can change. A huge drpp in salary may entice him to look elsewhere but I doubt he'd attract any suitors. So take it or leave it. Maybe 300k plus performance base something like that.

As for Bud, I'm sure, form permitting, he will receive a nice salary boost from the balance of Normans current base, he'd also be starting #6. Norman to act as does Benji for the Bunnies, however, he can cover halves, fb and centre ie #14.

Jr Amone's next step up is Flegg, then KOE Cup, hopefully we'll get to see that progression soon as SG Ball has already entered their finals series.

I see Amone as Hunt's replacement in season 2024 but would like to see him progress to reserve grade and be ready for the step up to first grade. Plenty of time to do this.

Sullivan is Norman's replacement and in my opinion, will do a much better job than Norman. Sullivan just needs time in first grade to gain experience. So the soon he replaces Norman the better. Hunt's injury has put spanner in the works however, once Hunt is back, there should be no reason why Sullivan is kept in reserve grade.

After the McGregor years I barely have the energy to enter into the discussion surrounding Norman resigning. That whole thing took an emotional toll on us all. Corey Norman should simply be asked to move on. Maybe we want to believe its Griffin that is making the difference and that we can now get the most out of him. To be taken seriously he needed to rise above in the past two sad seasons and he couldn't. He just cruised along despite his perceived talent. He should not be signed. Not on 800k, not on 400k, not on 200k. We need to look elsewhere.

So Norman wants to stay & play better at $400K than he has for 2.5yrs at $800K? I don’t think so, time for us to move on & let him have a fresh start somewhere. Plenty of clubs looking for halves.
It irks me that he is starting to play well now that his contract is up for renewal.
For 2.5 years, he's played like a busted arse.
We need players who will die (figurative) for the club.
He ain't one of those.
Just hope he has a good year for the sake of the club.
I wouldn't re-sign him because I have a long memory...

We could see it as a positive with Normy playing crap last year, McWreckor is gone along with the rest of boys!

Norman played ok tonight but he came up with 3 big errors;

Blatant set restart
Dropped ball cold
Soft missed tackle leading to a try

Not seeing Corey put his shoulder into defence like the rest of the boys.

Whereas Clune had his body on the line all game.

Lomax & Bird both proved they are origin level players.

I’d rather run at a brick wall than Ravalawa right now. Rava is our most improved player.

Only critique I have is that Williame offers nothing. Bring in either Max Feagai or Sullivan.
