Agree, but unfortunately there is a better than average chance he will be re-signed.

I hope you don't have an inside source on this George ( for once ! ) You just know that he is putting in big time to increase his value for his next contract. The guy himself doesn't help one bit to our culture because you know for sure when we are down he won't be the one getting his hands dirty to fix it.

I'd say with Max Feagai waiting in the wings for the left centre position, Griffin will move Bird to five-eighth and promote Feagai. This will leave him heaps to spend in the forwards.

Corey is obviously playing for a contract, just not a contract with us. With Sullivan, Bird, Amone & Clune all under contract there’s simply no room him & his money can be better spent on a quality backrower

Bird is not seen as a half.
Clune is not viewed as permanent FG. He is a low money back up.
Amone is a DP and a long way off FG.
That leaves Sullivan and he is a work in progress.
Fact is Hook sees Norman as our number one 5/8 and unless that changes he will be re-signed. ( at a greatly reduced figure)
Norman has even stated that he will stay.

I gathered from your initial post that Hook sees Norman at 5/8, the same way he brought AM in at 9.

Experience in the spine ? Its a big call, as me may lose a player or two, depending on the length of the contract. Cheers George.

Agree with your opinions here George Dragon. Hope he is playing for a contract as we will be the beneficiary. No need for Saints to rush a decision here, Rnd 26 at the earliest....?

Thx for the input @George Dragon .
I hope the Club think hard and long about any contract, even though he went ok last nite.
Griffin is not silly. I am sure he has the dominant say in recruitment / retention and so, Norman will be gone with Bird moving to 6 and one or two edge forwards recruited.

I estimate there is still salary cap enough to cover De Belin and 500k left over (probably used to front load contracts in preparation for 2022). Add to that the cap gained from players moving on and we should have enough to cover the recruitment of players that Griffin desires.

Gone: Norman 850k, McInnes 450k, Merrin 300k, Sims 300k, Williame 200k - (2.1m) plus the 500k in contract front loading freeing up 500k for next season.

New Signings: Molo 600k, Brown 600k and Creighton 600k - (1.8m). So enough there to cover the above recruits plus some contract upgrading and the promotion of some juniors.

I’d be extremely disappointed if the club extended Norman, I have no time for him as a player or a person. I’d much rather we invested in Sullivan.

George is saying that Norman is more than likely staying possm.

Yes I know and I repect George and his views. However, I am of the view that we have the opportunity to move on to better things and that Griffin will let him go; no matter howell he performs this season.

By moving Bird to 6, it gives Max Feagai the opportunity to begin his first grade career. It also gives the Dragons a very solid and experienced halves combination. Sullivan will be first reserve for the halves position replacing Bird or Hunt as needed.

Poss I think George just said that Bird isn’t seen as a half by the club.
So they won’t be moving him to 6....

Bird is not a 6, yes he could fill in on occasions, but so can a few others. His body shape isnt suited to 5/8, he's more a centre/edge forward/lock type now.

In fact, if Tariq doesnt improve his game then i'd move Bird to edge with Max at centre and Cody on the wing.

If Norman plays well all year then a 1yr extension, 'till Jr is ready, wouldn't be unreasonable.
