Maybe what does make it a puff piece is that he is basically just confirming what everybody already strongly suspects.

Allowing representatives of special interest groups onto what's meant to be a independent commission defeats the whole purpose of an independent commission.

Those most responsible for the grassroots of the game and with 100 years of history are special interest alright, it's called Rugby League.

The ARLC has a remit far greater than just the NRL.

The whole point of an independent commission is to have a group of people able to make decisions that effect the whole game from an objective standpoint, which means holding as few biases in favour of particular groups, organisations, or factions in the game as possible.

As soon as you have representatives for the NSWRL, QRL, and clubs on the commission, you've effectively given those organisations/groups within the game lobbyist on the commission who are there to act in their interests, and have killed any independence that the commission had.

If you honestly think that the NSWRL, QRL, and clubs, aren't using their representatives on the board to lobby for their own interests then there's no helping you.

because they want more control over them. They will bail them out, but on their terms.
In regards to only 4 clubs, that’s the reality for probably nearly every smaller sports club in the world. No business can lose 80% plus of its revenue and survive unless it can massively reduce its outgoings.

because it creates vested interests, they will want what’s best for them, which might not be what’s best for the game. See Richardson’s plan for restructuring nsw jnr RL and the development of a national platinum league which the states and clubs scuppered,

no, clubs don’t want it. It’s the leverage they hold over the commission when they aren’t happy. With perpetual licenses the clubs can’t threaten to break away if they aren’t getting their own way. They are held to having to be in the comp unless they hand their license back.

afl don’t have it, don’t see why we do. It just creates conflicts of interest and vested interests getting in the way of what the commission needs to do, which is make decisions in the best interest of all the game.

just look at the sht fight we had when the clubs and states were putting pressure on grant and his position. They could only do that as they had direct representation on the commission. This led to some very poor decisions around funding and where the revenue from this tv deal would end up.

if we want clubs to be totally sustainable we need a variable club grant like afl has, reality is the rich clubs hold the influence on the commission seats so it will never happen. Just another example. I’m sure there’s plenty more.

Firstly they aren't just grassroots organisations, and never have been, and only two of them are getting that opportunity to 'protect their interests' at the expense of all the others.

Do you honestly think that when the time comes to talk about how money for the state leagues and grassroots should be split that the NSWRL and QRL are going to work in the interests of the "Affiliated states" as well, who won't get a say and are way more desperate for funding, or do you reckon they're going to chew up as much funding as they can because that's in their best interests as organisations, then leave the scraps for everybody else?

That is always the problem with boards that aren't independent, the people on the board use their position to work in their group's own interest at the expense of others.
The only ways around that problem is too effectively have a senate where everybody gets a representative (which are ungainly, slow to react, and all round ineffectual), or too have a board that is as independent as possible.

What’s the feeling around a possible 3 Game series for the Grand Final? Can understand why the NRL would be interested but personally a big no from me.
