if you were new to the country and they were your first interface with RL you’d be thinking it must be a pretty low brow sport, both of them seem to struggle stringing an intelligible sentence together!

Have you ever heard Darren Lockyer commentate, Freddy and Joey are amazing compared to him. Not only is he not able to speak he seems to have no idea at all. I remember a game I saw between Manly and Parramatta last year where Manly lead by 20 or something and they asked Lockyer how Parra can come back. Lockyer response was literally “I don’t know just don’t let them score I think”

at least Johns can break down plays and analyse things well when he wants to and Fittler is extremely successful today.

The problem with Channel Nine's coverage is that a generation of morons have been raised to believe drug addicts, drunks and gamblers are intelligent communicators.

This is the problem. He can, but he just doesn't the vast majority of the time.

Fittler can be light-hearted sideline fun, but it's very stale and revolves mainly around his love for drinking.

Channel Nine commentary need a major shake up, but until they lose the rights it won't happen.

not denying their product is better. I get access to it via the NRL app. I've criticised the dumbed down Ch9 product for a while, and recently in some of these threads. But f**k it if I'm giving that old merkin my hard earned directly via a subscription.

You're right, how soon people forget.
The greedy old bastard couldn't get the viewing rights fair and square so he screwed the sport just to have his way. No lover of RL would have done that.

Kerry Packer did the cricket world a huge favour by introducing 1-day cricket. He loved the game and just wanted to make it better. As soon as the old farts at the Cricket Board woke up to themselves, Packer handed it to them on a platter. All he wanted was to broadcast the game.

What Murdoch did to RL was unforgivable. Rewarding the grubs actions by subscribing to Fox speaks for itself really.

I agree. Comparing our commentators to other sports is just plain embarrassing. WE need intelligent ex players not the stars who are just plain "dumb" or third rate comedians with their injokes

An unexpected benefit of the current situation is that both the NRL & the FumbleKicky can't lay on the Anzac Day propaganda thicker than Nutella to make it look like a bunch of blokes on a footy field are some sort of heroic physical & mental equivalent of veteran soldiers. To be honest it's quite galling every year when this comes up.

Gavin Miller was unfortunately the worst I’d seen, a short lived commentary career, and at least he realised it and got out. He’s not remembered much for it though, which is great.

If we’re talking the worst now - 3 of them for mine in order are..

the last two in particular are absolute legends of the sport but I fear will be tarnished by their careers with a microphone.

I actually like Anasta in general footy talk but for a live game it’s like having dentistry without anaesthetic
