There isn't a country on Earth that has the vaccine rolled out at this point.

We should certainly be further along than we are though.
Uk’s managed to fully vaccinate 32million (50%) we are sitting on 1.2mill (5%), and they are led by Boris Johnson! Why so slow Scomo?

AFL moving games out of QLD as well now. Perhaps the NRL should pencil in some AAMI Park Magic Rounds?

UK obviously had a drastic need to roll out as the virus was rampant.

I'm not going to defend ScoMo on this but expecting Australia to be fully vaccinated at this point is unreasonable. As I said, we should be way ahead of where we are though.

NZ are in the same boat as well.

Canada 66% first dose, 20% fully done
USA 54% first dose, 46% fully done
UK 65% first dose, 47% fully done.

Our numbers are pathetic in comparison. 23% first dose, 3% fully done.

If the 50% capacity still exists for regional stadiums than Newcastle is a non-starter for Origin 3 IMO.

AAMI Park is the obvious choice
Just don’t see the vic government allowing this without 14 day quarantine which just wouldn’t work. For reference the swans in the AFL currently have a squad of 30 something in Melbourne, with additional players currently training in Newcastle to allow them to move to Melbourne in two weeks if required. I’m not sure how they got permission to leave Sydney and go to Newcastle.

Apparently Pfizer (according to Norman Swan) were ready to make a deal with us last year but grew tired of the government’s penny pinching. We ended up with a smaller batch as the government were holding out for a locally produced vaccine. Given the years the Libs reduced funding to CSIRO and the like, it was less likely to happen.

Not denying it.

Those countries are not fully vaccinated though are they which is what I was responding to.

That's all true, but TBF a bunch of the vaccines they did buy were effectively stolen by the EU, which despite what detractors might say definitely had a large impact on the role out, and media fearmongering about blood clots hasn't helped either.

In other words the Liberals have made huge mistakes, and are shit (don't mistake this post as support for them), but it's also unreasonable to place all the blame solely on them, and I don't see Labour, or any other political party in Australia, doing much better than they have without the benefit of hindsight, as they are just as incompetent as the Libs.

Basically what I'm saying is we were f**ked from the beginning.

COVID-19 Update: 29 June 2021

A quick look at the impacts of current COVID-19 outbreaks around Australia and what they mean for this weekend's rugby league competitions.

NRL

  • Round 16 is set to proceed in full, but with signficant changes.
  • The Roosters v Storm match (Thursday) has been relocated to McDonald Jones Stadium in Newcastle. A reduced capacity crowd will be permitted.
  • The following matches will be played in front of no crowds: Warriors v Dragons (Gosford, Friday); Panthers v Eels (Bluebet, Friday), Bulldogs v Sea Eagles (Bankwest, Saturday), Wests Tigers v Rabbitohs (Leichhardt, Sunday)
  • Tickets for Raiders v Titans (Saturday, GIO) will stop sale on Friday at 6pm.
  • The Knights v Cowboys match (Saturday, McDonald Jones) will be held in front of a reduced capacity crowd. Tickets are currently off sale.
  • Broncos v Sharks (Sunday, Suncorp) is currently proceeding as scheduled, with Queensland's three-day lockdown due to end on Friday.
  • Decisions on venues for Round 17 are still to be confirmed. It is reported the NRL are looking at regional venues in an effort to have some crowds able to attend.

NSWRL

  • The NSWRL has cancelled the next two weeks of competition for all grades within the lockdown area - KOE NSW Cup, Jersey Flegg, Ron Massey Cup and Sydney Shield, along with Mojo Homes Illawarra Cup. Matches involving teams not affected by lockdown in Newcastle's Denton Engineering Cup will proceed.
  • All matches cancelled will be assigned a 'COVID Draw' with each team receiving a point each for the competition table.
  • Semi Finals in the Harvey Norman Women's Premiership will be delayed til July 17, with the Grand Final pushed to July 24. This will impact NRLW training which is due to commence July 12.

QRL

  • Both Intrust Super Cup and Hastings Deering Colts are currently set to continue as scheduled this weekend, with Queensland's three-day lockdown scheduled to end on Friday.
All information above is subject to change.
