Cowboys ditch Murray, door opens for Bennett

If they are getting rid of Muzz for Bennett the Cowboys management deserve to all be sacked. Bennett is well and truely out-dated, everyone knows exactly what the Broncos are going to do every game because his style has become so predictable - the only reason they've had so much success is because they've always had about 7 origin players in the team at any given time - even I could have coached the Broncos to the top 8 with that team.

Yep, I had the Cowboys right up there this year.

I dont see this as a tool to get more out of Murray either. It has got more potential to
t-bone a season.

I can't say I'm suprised to be honest. I think Graham Murray is great for the Cowboys, just like I thought he was great for the Roosters. Personally, I don't see any logical reason for him to be cut for 2009, but logic doesn't always play a part in these kinda decisions these days ...

Why I'm not suprised about the cut-Murray-go-for-Bennett idea is because Wayne Bennett, I would think, would probably prefer to stay in Queensland if possible. I know he was all set to move to Sydney to coach the Roosters, but I would think he would prefer Queensland to anywhere else if he had the choice.

Ben Ikin and family have moved to Sydney. Bennett , like the rest of us, would probably like to be near his grandchildren. That could be motivation for a switch to Sydney..
But having said that, talk of him going to the Cowdies previuosly, and denials by Peter Parr, have the smell of an already done deal....
What coaches don't need is Club assurances 'they are not going to be replaced

According to radio reports, Neil Henry is being linked to the position as well. Absolute rubbish of course, he's going nowhere.

Gasp....What, Bennett and a secret deal....NEVER!!!

Pete I think you might be on the money. Its a shame Murray always seems to be the one shafted. I would be curious to find out how the players feel...
If they are against it, the Cowboys might just fire up for him this year???
There was mention somewhere that Murray and certain individuals dont see eye to eye.. I dont know if its management or players...
Anyway, good luck to him...

I dont know what the f**k we are thinking here.

That's what I was thinking the moment I looked at the Townsville Bullsh!t this morning.

Muzz is the best thing thats happend to our club in a long time. Before he got there we were the easy beats of the competition, there better be some f**king concrete plans for a good replacement.

It had better be a good coach - I for one wouldn't mind John Lang - if he is still interested in coaching another NRL Team.

And it better not be Bennett.

If it is Bennett - I will not be renewing my Season Pass next year.

You dont really follow league do you?

If you pulled your head out of your arse for one minute you would know that the Cowboys made the Grand Final Qualifier with Nathan Fien and David Myles in the halves the year BEFORE Thurston came along.

I was gonna say!!!

murray has put a lot of time and care into building the cowboys into the force they are now.. it's a shame to see that come to an end.

all good things do come to an end though... and change is sometimes necessary to take things to the next level. look at the knights in 2000 - 2001.. they (somewhat arguably i suppose) had a much better team in '00.. but fell short of the grand final. coach change for '01 saw them take the title.

Feel sorry for Muzza, other coaches with less results have been treated better than he has at his two last clubs.

It does seem a strange decision and particuarly the timing.
I wonder if coaches can walk into another team about 8 weeks into the comp to replace other coaches who are booted 8 weeks into the comp.
The Cowboys management may be thinking they should grab a Qlder and a premiership winning coach whilst he is available.
Bennet has visited Townsville already so I will be interested to see what happens.
I assume the Cowboys playmaker in in Thurston has been consulted about who would be the most appropriate coach for them!

I really hope this isn't just an attempt to get Bennett. Honestly i think they would of been much better off with graham. We will have to wait and see how things turn out, but i personally think this was a bad decision.

Yeah,well it must be something.
Obviously, dumping Murray for Bennet is a little more believable, but if there's other coaches up for getting the job I'm a bit puzzled.

It's not like Murray has done anything wrong,we made it to the prelims last year and he was sacked from the Blues so it meant this year we could fully have him at the reigns.
I don't understand why the management would do this so perhaps players/staff have problems with him.

I still dunno about that either though,he seems like such a nice bloke.

Murray would be the perfect replacement for the Bulldogs. He isnt to technical, he is patient and he can get players heads on straight. I think Murray to the Bulldogs is a no brainer.

I also think that because of Gordon Tallis's connection to Wayne Bennett, Wayne could become a Cowboy.

Everyone seems to forget what happened to the Eels in 06 when Brian Smiths contract was not renewed. Could this be an omen of things to come for the Broncos and Cowboys? Wonder if they end up swaping coaches like the the Eels and Knights did?

Im not forgetting that at all, no matter what you think about the letting him go (positivie or negative).

Why make the call now?

I think that takes us from a geniune priemership threat, to mid table mediocrity.

In a club history littered with terrible decisions, bad personnel moves and a bad front office, this may very well be the worst one yet.

Well, I think using the Eels as an example is a bad idea because who took over after Brian Smith left mid year? Jason Taylor, and he was also already signed with Souths by then. The reason why Parra went well after Brian Smith left is because it was a new and refreshing atmosphere at the club.
