Here's what I would have the starting side as.....

1 McKinnon
2 Peterson
3 Tahu
4 Burt
5 Grothe
6 Morris
7 Marsh
8 Cayless (c)
9 Riddell
10 Vella
11 Hindmarsh
12 Morrison
13 Wagon

14 Widders
15 Witt
16 Cannings
17 Stringer

8 Cayless (c)
9 Riddell
10 Vella
11 Hindmarsh
12 Morrison
13 Wagon

What a weak pack! what has Vella and Wagon done to have starting spots in the starting pack? I rate Moimoi higher than Vella.

What better #13 do we have?

Morrison and Hindy are the second rowers, thats been set in stone.

Vella usually plays well for the first 10 minutes then goes missing for the last 70 mins. Thus if Vella was able to be replaced with someone like Cannings or Stringer it would work much better than it has this year.

And I'd hardly call a pack with the two second rowers being Hindmarsh and Morrison weak, no matter who the other 4 players were.

I would love to see more of Mateo playing lock.

Vella is too hot and cold - when he's good, he's great. Otherwise he's average.

I'd rather have Cayless and Widders rotate in the second row with Morrison at lock;

OR

Hindmarsh and Morrison in the second row with Mateo at lock.

I just don't see the point to Wags and Vella anymore.

So would I, but I dont think it will be 2005 when Mateo is ready for a full year of NRL.

Beyond 2005, nor do I

I dont think that Morrison in the number 12 is set in stone. To be honest i think Cayless is a better second rower. Morrison is very good also but i see him as a 80 minute number 13. Vella just isnt doing the job, for a player of his experiance his leadership and commitment is very poor. I will be very disapointed if he gets resigned.

Smith announced after signing Morrison that he would play in the SR unless injuries have a say.

Mateo played good enough in his few games in NRL, but Wagon also had a few great games (albeit not enough) Wagon played much better when he was at lock though compared to 5/8 IMO.

I see Mateo getting more and more time later in the season, however if our pack is strong, it would be great to put Mateo in there. Just think what it would do to have him playing alongside Hindy, Morrison and Cayless. It would be a great experience for him and any weaknesses he may have could be nullified by the calibre of players that he is surrounded by.

Hindmarsh, Cayless, Morrison. A back row that makes 96 tackles a game, 6.3 mistackles a game, makes 47.6 hitups a match, gains 348 metres a game and averages 4.3 errors a game. Its a pretty strong foundation to build a top 8 side off.

I think Mateo is definitely ready for First Grade.

He's got the talent. He'll be with Hindmarsh and Morrison, and even Wagon and Cayless.

This the team I'd choose

Mckinnon
John Williams-strong and fast
Ben Smith-strong and fast
Tahu-what can u say
Grothe-just his name makes me want to have sex
PJ- Brilliant but not a half back
Tim Smith- he shits all over Witt. The last PL game proved this again to me
Cannings
Riddell
Cayless
Morrison 80 mins
Hindmarsh 80 mins
Mateo 80 mins- Brings that Jim Dymock Jason smith skill to the pack

Morris- Utility so he can cover most spots
Henry Pernera- I saw this guy play very strong runner of the ball.
Tsoulos
Vella-He is a soft cock and I hope they dont resign him but he is good off the bench

The team that Smith will choose

Mckinnon
Peterson
Burt
Tahu
Grothe
Morris
Witt
Cannings
Riddell
Vella
Cayless
Hindmarsh
WAGON

PJ
Morrison
Stringer
Vella

I can already picture the scene in here when Smithy announces his team for Round 1, 2005  There will be plenty of arguments but I really don't care as long as we win and keep winning... ;-)

Here's my top 13 for what it's worth;

1. McKinnon
2. Burt / Petersen
3. Wagon
4. Tahu
5. Grothe
6. Morris
7. Marsh
8. Cannings
9. Riddell
10. Stringer
11. Hindmarsh
12. Cayless (c)
13. Morrison

Whatever the combination, and there are plenty of good one's, the is no question that next year is looking far more positive than the last three.
I for one, am excited.
And Twiz, something tells me that Smithy will still be there.

I hope so.

I gave him until June this year and then I went through a process, during that time that I wanted him to step aside but that didn't happen.

so then I kept an open mind on what sort of recruitment drive he can muster and I can honestly say I was very impressed with who we bought and decided that ok! Brian you work with who you got until June 05 and if we're not top 4 material at best then I'd like him to take a back seat approach to either Sharp, Anderson or Taylor to see what they can do until the end of the season where it will be re-assesed the minute our season finishes.

It must happen next year!!...no if's or but's
