Cowboys' Morrison excited by Eels move despite finals run

Burt isnt Physical enough in defence. Hodges showed him up big time. Widders would be an ok choice but i would rather have Wagon there. Sure no strike power in attack but his defence will really help out espcially in the centres. The side average 26 points against them a game last season. I think that improving our Defence would be at the top of Smiths list. Puting Wagon in the centres allows us to squeeze a player like like Roibinson, Afasamaga or Mateo into the starting side. A good young forward arounds guys like Hindmarsh, Cayless and Morrison is going to be much better for the club in the long term than persisting with Wagon.

Burt in the 3/4 #-o #-o #-o #-o is it me that only sees that he misses tackles all the time.

Nah mate I know he misses tackles, but I reckon he is a good attacking player.

* I dont like Petersen and Burt! Suspect in defence

*I would rather see Marsh on the bench as a replacement for Riddell. He has played most of his first grade career at Hooker, why change it.

*Wagon in the forwards does nothing for me. Sure he can defend but when has he really put in some solid hitups to work the side out of trouble.

That's fine, but this is my realistic team.

MY team would be:

1. McKinnon
2. Anderson
3. Tahu
4. Smith
5. Grothe
6. Marsh
7. Witt
8. Stringer
9. Riddell
10. Cannings

12. Cayless (C)
13. Morrison

watching Morrison over the last two weeks, he is pribably our best recruit for next year, slightly ahead of Tahu IMO

I'm expecting a big year from Morrison next year. Seems he really is looking forward to playing here, I like his attitude. He and Hindmarsh will have be the most damaging back row pairing in the competition.

I wouldn't be having Widders in the centres, he's good there in parts, but isn't fit enough.

Sounds about right, maybe the coach with swap Wagon and Morrison, and But might replace Ash. Either way, we are looking good.

Yeah Colonel, this is looking like what I'd picture as our first choice, with MITS's considerations and maybe Robinson vying for a bench spot too.

And then you have the talent that can just slot in as needed: Jack Afa, Tsolous, O'Dwyer, Ben Smith, Anderson, Mateo, Marcus Perenara?

Really hope two of Cannings, Cayless, Vella, Stringer, Robinson step up this year, and remain injury free. Ideally would also like to see an extra playmaker develop (Tim Smith, Blake Green?), to cover an injury to Marsh, Morris, or Witt if needed.

Morris and Tahu linking up again might be a very interesting combo :D

Starting and bench spots will be keenly sort next year. Robinson for Stringer would probably be MY only swap. Morrison in 13 and Wags left to defend in the middle IMO may be better but as to the coaching staff they may have other ideas.

Just gotta say if Robinson is good enough to make the Roosters bench he should be good enough for us next year.

The thing that kept cowboys going this year is the way players like Steve Southern and Shane Tronc stepped up when more experienced players went down. It's where Parra has failed these last couple of years. When experienced players have gone down no-one has really stepped up.

unless there is a change in the coaching or unless Brian changes things up a bit, i would imagine the side will look like this:

1. McKinnon
2. Peterson
3. Burt
4. Tahu
5. Grothe
6. Morris
7. Marsh
13. Wagon
12. Morrison
11. Hindmarsh
10. Vella
9. Riddell
8. Cayless (c)

14. Henderson
15. Widders
16. Stringer
17. Cannings
18. Robinson

with Marcus (and Henry) Perenara, Josh Davis, Justin Tsoulos and others vying closely for positions

what have players such as Brett Anderson and Ben Smith done to deserve to be put in ahead of players such as Luke Burt and Matt Peterson who have been there and done it and been leading pointscorers and tryscores?????

and Graham an O'Dwyer and others will have to prove themselves again and sadly i think Michael Witt may have to do the same again????

Burt in the centres you gotta be kinding. He can't handle wide running forwards or power house outside backs. We need tough solid defence from 1 to 17.

1.Mckinnon
2.Burt
3.Wagon
4.Tahu
5.Grothe
6.Morris
7.Witt
8.Tsoulos
9.Riddell
10.Cannings
11.Hindmarsh
12.Cayless
13.Morrison

14.Marsh
15.Robinson
16.Vella
17.Stringer

A pretty green front row i know but give them time and i can see them being a long term proposition, given the help of a pretty experianced back row i think they will blossom.

Cannings and Tsoulos is what is making me happy about next season. We all know what they can do on when they are on form. I recon they are both future rep material, they have the potential. Wether Smith gives them enough of a chance to forfil that potential is another question.

Just for interest sake, here's the players staying for 05 that Smith always (almost) put in first grade whenever available this year.

Burt (except for one game selected in PL)
Cayless
Grothe
Hindy
Morris (except for one game selected in PL)
Petersen
Vella
Wagon
Widders (except for first two games in PL)

You'd expect these guys to retain their spot in the 17 for sure, unless Smithy changes his mind on any of them...

Adam Peek was also always selected in first grade (usually bench/18, except for twice as starter). However with new purchases, if he stays I think he'll be a fixture in Premier League in 05?
