This youngster is reputed to possess skills and technical quality well beyond his years and could be given quite a bit of time, despite being ineligible to drive himself to training.

Newcastle's signing of the "Spiderman", 25-year-old Ecuadorian international Edmundo Zura, looks a promising move, and whether he gels with the Dane Jesper Hakansson will go a long way to determining whether Gary van Egmond can build on his reputation as the hottest coach in the country.

Gary van Egmond is the best in the country and is certainly one of the brightest we have produced from a tactical perspective. He turned around a non-performing team in season three while battling against his chairman's insistence on playing the hapless Mario Jardel. Even the release of Nicky Carle didn't stop the Jets delivering the championship to Newcastle.
Having lost much of his team, a Dane and Ecuadorian join the incredibly talented Kaz Patafta, who is looking to rejuvenate a stalled career. With young Jason Naidovski, who, like Bruce Djite, Nathan Burns and Nikita Rukavytsya, comes straight out of the AIS, plus James Holland - who should be with the Olyroos - van Egmond has a big job ahead but don't be surprised if he helps the Jets defend their crown.

THERE'S always hype around the start of a new season, but there is a hint of the A-League falling flat in the opening round next weekend.
You only have to look at the long list of players missing from Sydney's match against Melbourne next Saturday to know that game has been badly affected by injury and pre-season suspensions.

So people only care about Melbourne and Sydney :lol: Do Sydney even have any fans?

However, my biggest concern about this A-League season is the disappointing recruitment and the apparent lack of motivation from clubs to go out and attract marquee players.

As far as I'm concerned a marquee player should give clubs and the league what I now call the Dwight Yorke factor. Not just a great player, but a star who transcends the sports pages.
I found it disappointing that no one snapped up Yorkie this season. I have to admit, I'm a good friend of his. But he was out here in the off-season, I know how keen he was to come to Sydney first, then the Mariners.

Sydney has always been at the forefront of the marquee signings.
And it's because of their recruitment they're my pick to win a second A-League title.

If I was to pick a top four now, it would be Sydney, Queensland, Melbourne and Adelaide, with an honourable mention for Central Coast Mariners.

All there opinions are coloured by their personal agenda.

SBS have really gone down hill IMO. They struggle for relevancy and hence, to make their voice heard, say outrageous things, while fox need to talk the game up as they are the rights holders and want people to watch it.

What I always get amused by is Fosters ramblings against the english game and how young Aussie players should go to the continent.
