Cricket Australia Contract List

Because you seem to be very slow i'll remind you that i said "Both are NOW in the side for 2 forms."

Hope that is simple enough for you..:sarcasm:

Smith needs to prove himself, he frankly hasn't. Another 12 months won't kill him, have we not learnt before from giving people contracts based on a few good games. Smith was relatively ordinary last season (with the exception of 50 over cricket), so lets wait and see whether he is in the ODI and T20 side in 12 months time.

Bailey has MORE of a claim, but even so he isn't in our ODI side at full strength.

Mark my words.

If he stays healthy, Steve O'Keefe will be on this list next year, and a regular in at least one form of the game.

Or I'm just biased because he plays for Manly CC.

Time will tell...

Neither should have a contract, Cowan should or another test player

You don't seem to understand the parameters within which the list was selected..

Cowan has been in the test side for 5 minutes,& has yet to post a score of substance, yet you would place him above a man who plays in 2 forms of the game,& is captain of one of those,& a kid who is 7 years younger,& who has a higher top score from 1 less test..

I would rather they don't just hand out $300,000 contracts to every person with 6 months of success at State level, that is why I am against Hughes and Smith getting one. Neither have proven at the highest level that they can cut it. Smith was not in our full strength ODI or T20 side this last summer...which is exactly my point, you are picking him off 2 months since the last ODI where some players in our top side are unavailable through injury.

The list is fine, lets not cheapen the contracts please. No White, no Smith, no Hughes= Good Move at this stage.

Why don't you apply the same criteria to Cowan as you do to the others??..

Or do you just have some personal issue with Smith??..

Using your criteria Cowan doesn't deserve a spot either due to the limited time he has been in the squad..

Just because you happen to be a member of the Test team doesn't automatically mean you deserve a CA contract..Especially when your place in said team is nowhere near written in stone..

BTW i agree Hughes & White shouldn't be considered..

T20 is probably the only form where Smith is even close to being a certain selection. He's not going to be in the test team any time soon, and he has been ordinary in ODI's.

I agree Smith doesn't really fit the criteria..

But i'd rather back a young colt than old geldings like Cowan & Dussey..

There is waaay more upside to contracting youth who are finding their feet, than elder statesmen who have already peaked..

Smith was in our full strength T/20 squad.

I wouldn't bother arguing logic with Locky, many have tried, none have succeeded

Its a yearly contract, not a five year one. When Smith is up to it, he will get a contract.

Yep i realise it's a yearly contract..

I don't see the point in signing players who may be well off the radar by the end of it..

Marcus North a couple of years ago is a prime example..

I would give preference to a test player as it is the pinnacle that said either way it will be wrong. Honestly lets be honest, NONE of Johnson, Steve Smith, Cowan, or Hughes should be anywhere near a contract, as they have not had the runs on the board. For the record, I would rather only have 14-15 contracts, these last 3 are just pointless and a waste of money, 2 of which are Mike Hussey and Ponting who are likely to be gone before the next summer!

Yes, but the youngsters MUST have some runs on the board. I just can't see any young players deserving of it. What I don't understand is why don't they hand out 14 and have 3 contracts to hand out DURING the 12 months purely based off performance.

With the IPL threat you actually need to have an inflated list to ensure your depth isn't raided..

Smith is hot potatoes in IPL circles too..
