Poms seem to be the WC favorites and banking on their power hitting no doubt.

But their bowling attack is there for the taking, which could be their down fall Surprised Chris Jordon or Jofra Archer not included

England World Cup squad: Eoin Morgan (capt), Moeen Ali, Jonny Bairstow, Jos Buttler, Tom Curran, Joe Denly, Alex Hales, Liam Plunkett, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Jason Roy, Ben Stokes, David Willey, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood

I reckon the poms attitude is 'we Don't care how many you score, we'll score more'

I think I read somewhere that Jordan has a chronic back injury that limits the amount of overs he can bowl.

Surprised they didn't pick archer because they're always very quick to pick blokes who change allegiance

That's a pretty ordinary bowling attack.

Chris Woakes is probably the best there and he averages 32...

No more Watto for the Thunder

http://www.espncricinfo.com/story/_/id/26607733/shane-watson-ends-australian-career-bbl-retirement

Shane Watson has ended his professional career in Australia by announcing his retirement from Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League.

Watson, who retired from international cricket in 2016, joined the Thunder four years ago after previously been part of Sydney Sixers and Brisbane Heat, though 40 of his 41 BBL appearances came for the Thunder.

He was captain for the last three seasons and finished as the Thunder's leading BBL run-scorer with 1,014 at 26.68. During the 2018-19 tournament, he struck a 61-ball century against the Heat at the Gabba.

Last year, Watson had signed a two-year extension with the Thunder but has decided to call it a day in Australian cricket to spend more time with his family.

"I want to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart who has been involved with the Sydney Thunder over the last four seasons," Watson said. "I will most definitely miss support that the club gets from the Thunder Nation. Their unwavering support through the ups and downs inspires everyone and I will cherish that support deeply.

"Finally, to my team-mates, I have played with so many great people and cricketers at the club and I sincerely wish everyone the absolute best for the upcoming seasons."

Cricket Australia chief executive, Kevin Roberts, praised Watson's longevity in the game. "Shane Watson was one of the most exciting short-form players ever to grace a cricket field," he said. "Talented, skillful and powerful, Shane was a devastating batsman at his best.

"In a career which spanned almost two decades, Shane made a major contribution to Australian cricket firstly at international level and then in domestic cricket as a significant contributor to the Big Bash."

Thunder's head coach Shane Bond said: "I played against him a little bit and he was an outstanding player, so I was really looking forward to working with him. He was great to work with, he's the ultimate professional. He cared about the team and the players and was hugely respected in the dressing room. We're really going to miss what he brings to the team and he will be a big loss.

"For the young players at the club, he was very approachable, honest and you couldn't ask for a better role model. We'd love to have him around in some capacity and there's an open invite to have him join us during the season."

Watson, who is currently playing for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL, where he struck 96 in his most-recent outing, will continue to take up overseas T20 roles. The Thunder, who missed out on the semi-finals in last season's competition, will make a decision on their new captain over the next few months ahead of the 2019-2020 tournament.

Saw on the BookFace that Namibia and PNG have earned ODI status.

I'm all for growing the game and I realise that they will hardly be rolling out vs Australia or India or England for 5 match series any time soon...but are the ICC stretching a bit far too early?

lol PNG??

I have been there many times and never seen a cricket pitch. And if I saw someone with a cricket bat, I'd be very worried

To be fair, Faulkner made an offhand post, the internet took it the wrong way, then made what I thought was a decent correction.

CA are the ones putting on a show of foot in mouth disease. Getting involved at all, calling it a joke (and thus belittling the experience of coming out), and then scrambling to apologise for being dolts. Lol. Why get involved at all?

Shaun Tait and Glenn Maxwell commented on the original post saying it was brave, and he must be relieved, etc.

I wonder if they knew?

Yeah a few others did too I think.

I suppose it just shows, whether the original post or the correction is true, these blokes don't know each other as well as it might seem.

Or maybe they do....

I kinda hoped it was true tbh.

The players would know if he was especially those guys. The whole thing is strange

That's what I thought. Maxwell in particular, they played for years with each other in the BBL and the ODI side.

If he did know, then it's very poor taste to make the comment.

It seems a few precious petals who sloth around on social media got bruised because they applauded a guy they don't know for coming out then cried social injustice and homophobia when they realised it was a joke.

And CA stepped in for God knows what reason.

Play on.

I don't even think it was necessarily a joke.

I think he wanted to portray a bromance or whatever and used a term he later realised could be misleading.

Course, no one bats an eye when women call their mates girlfriend.

Massive storm in a teacup.
