PARRAMATTA’S powerbrokers are set to be joined by at least one new face as an investigation into Eels CEO Paul Osborne’s conduct continues.
The leagues club board was scheduled to meet last night while an investigation continued into an employee’s harassment claim against Osborne, and his financial dealings.
Leagues club president Roy Spagnolo said club solicitor Bryan Belling was conducting the investigation. This could determine whether Osborne remained in the job.
“It may take 10 days, it may take 12 days, but we anticipate it will take two weeks,” Spagnolo said.
Osborne, believed to be on holidays, did not respond to The Advertiser’s request for an interview.
Yet while the Eels CEO is absent, it won’t damage his chances of co-operating with Belling.
“Paul will be available to answer any questions,” Spagnolo said.
The allegations against Osborne, including misuse of a company credit card, became public after Pirtek CEO Glenn Duncan resigned from the board.
Spagnolo said the board would discuss nominees for the vacancy this week.
CAYLESS IN FRAME
Recently retired Nathan Cayless is an obvious candidate for the vacated board position.
The former captain is still active in public life as a speaker, but was unsure of his intentions.
“I haven’t really thought about it. I know my name was in there but I don’t know where it came from,” Cayless, who works in real estate, said.
“I was looking at doing something with the club at the start of the year but then work got quite busy.
“I can tell you I haven’t been approached formally yet.”
Another former Eel, Ray Price, dismissed his own candidacy given he moved to the Gold Coast last year. “It’s very hard formeto take that role being up here,” he said.
