Cross to bear a season on sideline

So what if he runs out every week, these days he is going 5 hitups for 40m, stuff having 450k do that once per week.

I think theyre last weeks figures for Eels anyway, not sure on season avg.

?

Halftime stats maybe. 11 runs for 99m according to NRL Stats and 26 tackles. Not good enough, but hardly ordinary. The week before against the Bulldogs, Cayless ran 20 times for 167m and 32 tackles - not too bad?

Anyway, we are singling out Cayless here, when the reality is, the Knights overpaid for an injury prone, ageing front rower who had achieved very little in the game and expected him to be the next Paul Harragon?

You can count on 2 hands the amount of games Ben Cross has actually been any good in for the Knights.

yeah well Karma, we have him for one more year.

might get 10 games out of him in 2010

then he will no doubt go to the ESL for a final pay day.

massive shame, but if he was in top form for 3 years and hardly misses a game, we look like geniuses.

luck is a bitch.

looks like simmo is our spearhead prop now.

all of a sudden we are looking shyt.

Of course mate, but at the same time, you have to break down the realistic chances of that ever actually happening given the rest of his career before that...

When you line that up, the Knights had to do the equivalent of winning the Lotto for Cross to reach those heights.

Houston to prop, Pato (hopefully) to backrow and Simmo to bench? Although I'd be reluctant to move Houston after he's been playing so well in recent weeks.

FFFFFFFFFFFFAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, got that out of my system. Right, now onto the future. Our prop stocks, while not outstanding, are not as bad as some seem to think IMO. By my count, we still have Taufua, Faas, Simmo, Tolar (when he's back), Wicks and Natusch on the books. Our back row (barring injury - and I know that's a big statement) looks after itself... House, Taia and Hilder, plus Pato when he's right.

I see this as a massive opportunity for a young fella with his whole career in front of him (Natusch), a bloke in the prime of his career with a world of points to prove (Wicks), and an aging star who wants one more good year (Simmo). All three need to pick the club up, put it on their shoulders, and carry it forward. I for one reckon they are up to it.

When is tolar back? Simmo going to prop isnt a bad idea for mine, its his only chance to start with our current back trio and id prefer him on the field where possible. Faas is really impressing me and so is wicks. i like that they are trying to put hits on and intimidate. So with simmo in for cross i dont think we are looking any worse than last week in our pack...its our depth that worries with only timmy fit......

how far off are Tovo etc

outside backs we have jimmy, aku fit? where was doogs? will he be right? sau probably ok... wes a couple of weeks, pete might be close now....and lulia. lets not hit the pannick buttons yet.

we dont have any fit halves do we? scotty was bandaged pretty well and mullen might need a week or 2?

Not like you to be lacking in optimism.....

Seriously, this is early Origin for us.

Cross out, Mullen in doubt (thats right, doubt, he has scans to day, lets not jump the gun just yet)

Doogs in for Wes and Sau will play with a needle in necessary.

Aku will be back, to drop Lulia out of the side.

Scott in for Dodge (who might play if Mullen is out).

Simmo in for Cross.

Why all the doom and gloom???

1 Gidley
2 Jim
3 Doogs
4 Sau/Lulia
5 Aku
6 Mullen/Dodge/Hilder
7 Scott
8 Simmo
9 Degois
10 Taufua
11 House
12 Taia
13 Hilder/Taia

14 Patto/Karawana
15 Wicks
16 Faas
17 Natusch/Nadira

I see no problem with that side.

Does it make anyone else sick in the guts seeing Ben Hannant running around with the Bulldogs on similar money Ben Cross is making at at the Knights, and completely outplay him week in week out with phenomenal stats and unbelievable work rate?

I am not one of Cross' biggest fans, but the last 2-3 weeks was pretty much the first time he has been not injured and properly match fit since he got here...you can't blame him or the club (but you'd never miss a chance ;-)) for what has happened since the start of 08.

Hannant - I have no idea how he's gone in that department but of course he is quality, and personally I rate the pair of them as high as each other, but Hannant has the ability to go up another notch to become a Price or Civo for QLD in the coming years. The Dogs have got a good 'un :)

Seriously though whens the last time the knights had an imposing front row 02?

Been a dry run.

Though off the bench very happy with Wicks and Faaoso.

no need for alarm yet. if mullen plays we arent really any worse off than last week... cross out for the season is a blow to our depth but that is all. we will need more injuries before we should really worry, credit to our depth at the moment. two years ago the same injuries to the same positions and we were screwed

Honestly, I don't mind that side either, I'm just not convinced it's one that will be able to be named.

Every year we get rotten luck with massive injuries to key players, seems to happen to us the most compared to other clubs. THey should start calling us The Newcastle Injured.
