Was actually a reasonable crowd for a game against penrith (who simply do NOT travel to the SFS), but even so still a poor offering by us considering the weather and coming off the back of an arsey but spectacular win the week before.

I shudder to think what we'll get against canberra next week. Traditionally a very low drawing crowd for us (hence why we used to take this match to Gosford) coupled with a very 2009-like showing yesterday means we are probably in for our first sub-10K of the year.

while hardly anything to .....:sarcasm: crow .. about

that roosters crowd V penrith may be the biggest ever for a club game between the 2 in the moore park area

about 2500 more then I thought it would be
& on a sunny day not far from bondi

I'll confirm this ;-)

well its up there but not a record

14,804 at the Sports Ground in 1968 in rnd 17 is the biggest
13,169 at the SFS in rnd 24 2000 is the biggest there

yesterdays 12,746 is 3rd

meh

I'll say you'll get the crowd we expected yesterday next week
so about low 10's

the Raiders will bring a few with them .. probably more then Penrith did
& I think it will be a very competitive game just quietly

Any thoughts at the club about moving it elsewhere, perhaps somewhere near the Raiders to build support?

We definitely get more raiders fans to games at the SFS than panthers fans, and with a good win under the belt and a generally good start to the season that will help the numbers for sure.

Problem is most of the roosters fan base are still dealing with the nightmares of 2009 and most of 2011 and yesterday brought on a lot of vietnam-style flashbacks for us so I expect the home town fans to be a little thinner.

If we break 10K i'll be happy. Having said that if we actually name SKD and Moga in the side that should also see a few more fans through the gates

I don't think moving it closer to canberra is necessary, as the raiders have fans throughout sydney and other parts of Australia owed to their period of dominance in the late 80s/early 90s.

Personally if the Roosters have to move any home games I'd like to see the canberra game be the one taken to Gosford or somewhere in QLD, but as a rule I am against moving games.

For me the roosters crowd was good and about 2,000 more than I expected.

I do fear for the average this year though as our traditional top drawing games (dragons, Dogs, Souths, tigers) are not until later in the year.

I'm sure they got 20k to a game at the SFS in 2004.

So Parramatta get 11,389 on a cold, wet, Friday night (and it rained all day), but the Roosters got 12,746 - only 1,357 more people - after a first round victory and on a glorious sunny sunday afternoon.

The Roosters have done the right thing transferring the Cowboys game to Darwin. They should do the same for Penrith or Canberra games. Or maybe even play it at the SCG which might draw a few more fans because of the novelty factor.
