I think the 4:30pm kickoff time may have had an effect on the Titans crowd last week, and they have the exact same problem this week too. I know its unavoidable since Qld doesn't have daylight savings but it's still inconvenient for fans.

8:30 kickoff in Newcastle may effect the crowd there too.

Yeah i've heard it's been rubbish up your way as well mate. You coming down for the game?
Nah mate. Broncos, Dragons, Panthers, Tigers and Manly this year for me. Silver Star membership plus 2 extra games that I snuck past the Leader of the Opposition. Looking forward to checking out the new Members' Bar. They should have named it after you, or was your price too high?

Mate they've done well with it but the piss prices are pretty $$$$. They police entry very strictly, you can only get in with your membership card, that might cruel them a bit patronage wise if they are turning away non membered punters but i guess if you create an environment that entices people to get membership then i guess it will be sucessful. Time will tell.

And no, not named after me mate, after the tirades I've had on the stampede site at the club with the ineptitude of the management over the past few years I doubt they would want f**k all to do with me!!!!!! Example, their inability to get decent merch, the, howdy hat idea was Roo's, Rivers and mine (Roo financed it all and rightfully made all the cash out of it) but he approached the club initially about it they didn't want a bar of it.......... This was in 04 and guess what happened that year?? We made the finals for the first time and Roo couldn't keep up with demand............. Then the club wanted a piece of the foam stupidity.

I genuinely did not know it was an 8.30 kickoff until you posted. Won't stop me from going but can't speak for others, i would still guess at a crowd between 23 and 26k

If the roosters level of support is “inadequate” as you put it then Penrith, Cronulla and Manly are certainly worse with South’s not far behind.
Never qualified any remarks about any other club, just the Roosters.

That said (and I don't like defending Cronulla) - both the Sharks and Roosters played their first home games on the SAME sunny Sunday afternoon. The Sharks got just under 16k to a 20k seat stadium... the Roosters got 11/12k to a 44k seat stadium.

And the Sharks opponent was arguably a lower draw. You do the math.

Even if Manly and Bulldogs are leading the competition into round 8, you won't get near 40k let alone 50k. I would expect the crowd to be more like Dragons/Bulldogs (29k) clash or lower. Manly aren't a strong drawing team and there is no real rivalry between the clubs.

The Dragons/Dogs crowd was an abherration last weekend tbh - look back over other Dogs/Dragons crowds and they're well over 30k... some near 37-40k. I think the crowd the other night was a victim of Saturday night scheduling - Friday night or Sunday afternoon would've seen it pull more.

As for no real rivalry between the clubs... hmmm. Maybe not as significant history as other battles, but for the Des v Toovey factor alone... that will be a drawcard. It's a no-brainer.

Willie Mason was far bigger news than Des Hasler and that drew 35k
... five seasons ago.

You and Timmy Two-Dads talking it up doesn't make it so. We'll have to wait and see, I guess.
WTF is with the personal insults? I made a judgement based on your perceived location, without personally insulting you. Pull your head in.

Can't see the Dogs vs Sea Eagles reach the big 40k. Sure there will be the Des Hasler factor but I imagine this will attract only an extra few thousand fans. Plus the game will be on the verge of the Origin period and no doubt player selections will be bigger news on the day. And lastly and typically Manly fans don't and won't travel.

For the record when was the last time Manly were involved in a game infront of a plus 35k crowd during the regular season?

I think they were involved in that 1999 double header that is still the highest ever RL crowd at 104,000.
Other than that, I doubt they've been in front of 35k outside of Brisbane and final games in a very long time, if ever. (edit: 37k in R1 this year lol)

Would be an interesting list to see what each clubs highest non finals crowd is (home or away). I remember them saying that Broncos V Raiders in R26 2010 was the biggest for the Raiders.

Excluding double headers, no regular season Sydney games have got above 45000 since 1974. There were afrw before then largely because the SCG was used for the match of the round. The biggest match in Sydney (regular round) was Balmain vs Dragons in 1966 - 55k +. i always have awry smile when someone here says a game should get above 40k - maybe it should but if it did it would certainly be a rarity.

Dunno about away, but each club's highest non-finals HOME crowds are below (based on current home ground, double headers not included):

BRI 50,859 v Manly, 2011 R26 (Lockyer's last home game)
CAN 25,253 v Magpies, 1994 R21 (Meninga's last home game)
CBY 41,835 v Warriors, 2009 R25 (Hazem's last home game)
CRO 22,302 v Dragons, 2004 R8
GLD 27,176 v Broncos, 2008 R6
MAN 25,876 v Balmain, 1976 R11
MEL 24,081 v Dragons, 2011 R24
NEW 32,642 v Manly, 1995 R17
NQL 30,302 v Broncos, 1999 R8
PAR 27,243 v Souths, 1986 R24 (Ray Price's last home game)
PEN 22,582 v Eels, 2010 R19
STI 20,047 v Sharks, 2009 R3 (Kog)
SOU 34,315 v Bulldogs, 2007 R4
SYD 37,981 v Manly, 1996 R16
WAR 32,174 v Illawarra, 1995 R6
WST 34,272 v Eels, 2009 R24 (SFS) \ 22,877 v Souths, 2005 R20 (LCH) \ 20,527 v Cowboys, 2005 R23 (CS)

I've probably got one or two wrong - and before WT or STGI fans say anything - I'm using current clubs, not the previous incarnations of clubs.

Seems big name players need to retire more often.

Warriors highest would be Eden Park last year. I'm sure plenty others would be higher elsewhere (like Brisbane), none recently though.

Never went to QEII - obviously bigger capacity but must have been a crap ground for Broncos to move.
The moon is closer to the field than the seats at QEII.

The conditions up here are atrocious at the moment, I wouldn't be surprised if we get our first sub 10k crowd for a very long time tomorrow night. If todays weather keeps up then we will get well over 200-300mm of rain today alone. Damn shame.

Sideline seats were ok. Viewing cant compare in any regard to Suncorp. Except it was alot more laid back, i had some awesome fun at QEII. Super League Grand final went off.
