Last season we talked about why Newcastle was not included in the competition when Penrith was admitted in 1967. One of the reasons was because the local Newcastle competition was too strong. I found this video which shows the sort of crowd. I am somewhere below the scoreboard. Fr. John Cootes in no. 3 for the Rosellas.

Cheers that was a great link and it's a shame comps like that and the BRL all die off but then again thats modern sport (which is not always a good thing).

That is a great crowd for the Rabbitohs btw, no doubt we would've got a bigger crowd at a suburban ground with state of the art hills and all that.

Amazingly good crowd at ANZ. When P1 was filled up an hour before kickoff you knew it would be special.

Almost certain it was the highest ever crowd for a Souths/Storm match.

Just watched the game, great game, amazing crowd. I think we have 3 or 4 Sydney teams now capable of taking crowds where they should be in ourbRL capital, the rest just making up the numbers. Well done sth's fans.

Wow what a crowd at anz tonight. Seeing it on tv it easily looked over 25k plus but over 30k against an out of town team just makes you wonder! If that was a dogs v souths game with both teams undefeated it would have been over 60k. IMO Sydney is really showing qld up this year which is good to see. We need to keep building off this. 51k, 32k against storm. Afl must be headless at this!!! Brisbane got what against storm?? With 1 team in a 2 mill population town. Sydney is clearly nrl heartland

The Sydney big 4 sounds good but you need another 12 teams to be involved.

No surprises a QLDer taking offence at NSW having decent crowds.

The Newcasle GF still draws in excess of 10k as I understand it.

Great crowd Souffs last night. Stunning actually against the normally low drawing Storm.

If rain related luck is good to us I really think we can average 20k+ this season.

Sunday games are traditionally our best attendances and we don't have one for the first 20 rounds in Sydney, which is a joke.

Playing Saints on a Monday too. Our one game against them, that should have been on a Sunday. Further, that we play them only once is also a joke.

We will do well if we average over 20k.

I expect sth's home game in Perth to sell out so weather permitting that will be a 20k crowd.

5800 last year
6000 the year before
13,500 in 2010!!!

The Illawarra league is pretty similar in crowds i think and also has th same proud history

Brookvale should go close to a sell out too. Manly are in great form, awesome weather and one of a few Sunday afternoon games for them.
