wow

nearly 3 Million people in SE Qld

& they can't find even 25,000 people willing to attend a derby ?
pathetic seems to be quite inadequate a word to describe this situation.

Not many do understand the poor crowds in SEQ. Still expecting 22-24k but should be a sellout by default in Brisbane and gold coast. I went to suncorp 2 years ago and their where only the 30k there v the titans!

Blah blah. No one can say what a crowd is in Sydney because we don't understand the complexities of the place. But everyone else can say what Queensland should get.

Same direction as other iterations of the same club and several other GC-based sporting franchises.

Why they didn't put CC in instead in 2007 has me stumped

That's the spirit expand the NRL by making it more insular and more inbred. That would've brought in the $1 billion.

Seems there are stupid people in ALL forums. Go and check how many attended League in Sydney that weekend and then go and check how many attended in SE Qld.

And congratulations, because you are one of them. The entire point of my post was to point out how stupid Raiderdave was being (again).

And, well done for being another LU Einstein to find a way to criticise the Broncos getting 40k to a game.

Where did I criticise the Boncos?

There is no way that Queensland has more people attend League over a year than do in Sydney. And I am talking per capita.

You were the one that bagged Sydney's attendance.

Penrith never have good crowds. Its like basing Gold Coast crowds on the Queensland market does not tell the full story as its the worst performing team as far as crowds go.

Dragons/Sharks crowd suprised me was not expecting a crowd that big due to our recent form

If only you could go back to the old days of having a strong NSW comp and a strong QLD comp with play-offs between the 2 then things might be a lot less messy.

http://stats.rleague.com/rl/crowds/penrith_vn.html

Um, check out the "highest crowds" section and look at when they got their record crowd? That's right, just under three years ago. Also, look at what their crowd averages were like in recent years when they made the finals during the past 15 years? All they need is a good year on the field and like teams that were in the doldrums and then performed well, the fans will start turning up in full-force to their matches. Easy to kick an injured person when they're lying on the ground defenseless. After all, it was only a few years ago that Souffs were regularly getting a paltry 6-7k to home matches. Then the year their made the finals for the first time in 18 years, their average home attendance increased by 50% and has been strong since then.

It also doesn't help when their highest drawing home fixture vs Parramatta will be on Monday Night. As well as having home games during the heat of the day in March, where it was stinking hot and humid . It doesn't help when you get dumb scheduling (just go and ask the Sea Eagles fans who have a plethora of MNF games this year), which has a big impact on club memberships that are vital for long-term growth.

So penrith's fans are bandwagon fans? Not fans that turn up regardless of form like some clubs fans do.

As bad as parra have been in recent years their crowds are nowhere near as diabolical as penrith's are

Over the previous 10 years (2002-2012):

Parramatta's lowest crowd average: 11,262 (2003)
Penrith's lowest crowd average: 10,858 (2012)

Parramatta's highest crowd average: 17,080 (2010)
Penrith's highest crowd average: 17,781 (2003)

What was that you were saying Marcus? If Penrith's are diabolical, what does that make Canberra's?

Look at parra's games at parra stadium only and then come back to us.

Their averages have been skewed by playing the dogs at ANZ and hindy's farewell.

Only 5 years ago the dragons were averaging in the 12000's for home games.

All teams have fluctuations in crowds according to form.

The panthers problems lie with a lack of consistency on the field. 1 finals appearance since 04' will hurt anyone's averages.

Our crowds haven't been good enough. But if we can become a consistent team I'm confident our crowds can average in the 16-18k territory.

not trying to be overly critical but I just thought 9,000 or so on a sunny afternoon on a easter weekend was just pathetic. If I have come across as to heavy I do apologize.

Exactly what I was trying to say (regarding Penrith)

And you are also correct re:Dragons and Parramatta. Parramatta have been playing 2 of their home games at ANZ for the last few years (one of which is against the Bulldogs, who have ANZ as their home ground and the Eels/Bulldogs rivalry is one of the biggest in the NRL), which does inflate their average when they've got 25-30k+ to matches at ANZ which they otherwise wouldn't have if played at Parramatta.

Oh, and regarding the Dragons merger:

1993 - Illawarra average home attendance: 12,321
1993 - St George average home attendance: 14,770

Combined total of 27,091 for those two regions

2012 - St George/Illawarra average home attendance: 16,426 < 27,091

In terms of crowds, was the merger really a success? IMO, Illawarra deserves its own team.

if you want to see a shit crowd this weekend, watch the cowbs panthers game.

I have a feeling there's a lot of pissed off people up here at the moment in NQ. There's one thing being a shit team, but another when you put in 2 absolute pea hearted performances in against teams (and this is not trying to disrespect the knights or warriors as they were by far better in each of those games) that we should be beating with the players we have.

I agree , it wasn't good enough.

Our form , combined with virtually no travelling fans will do that though.

That said , we should be aiming for 12-13k at a minimum. ( for the lowest drawing games)

Easter Sunday has never drawn well. It's one of those time slots that probably should be abandoned on that weekend. Never happen unfortunately.

Maybe ensuring a team plays out of anz might work on that day to take advantage of the people going to the Easter show may be the only solution.

Same time period
Parramatta home crowds at Parramatta Stadium = 1,590,768
Penrith home crowds at Penrith Stadium = 1,723,785

Parramatta home crowds total = 1,893,552
Penrith home crowds total = 1,756,654

That 7.8% difference is almost entirely down to the 13 event games Parramatta played at bigger venues (Penrith only played 2).

For the record for the same period -

Canberra home crowds total = 1,538,257
