A-League NRL and NSW Gvmt need to work together to get a 50k RECTANGULAR stadium for tigers and parra to use. Maybe dogs/parra too.

They're not going to spend $600mill for two teams. Nsw govt doesn't have the money and doesn't see the need when it has anz and Allianz. The best chance of Sydney getting a decent RL stadium would be to get nsw govt to give the land, NRL and private developer build it and 5 clubs become tenants.

Penrith, manly, st's and cronulla don't want to move out of their suburbs and there is reasons why it could be a disaster for them, they struggle to get 14k on their footsteps so moving further away could hit crowds even harder for those clubs. No easy answers to the Sydney stadium problem.

Souths have no excuse for a poor crowd tonight, competing for the minor premiership amd being top of the table is good enough to show up. The opposition excuse is null and void when your team is in the top 4.

Bigger than any Western Wankers crowd ever, right? Don't know how they fit 17,000+ in there, though, the soccer knobs call it a sellout at 14,000.

They got 17k just two nights before the Parra vs Manly game. It probably wasn't a membership game which means that everyone had to purchase tickets for the match.

During the A-league, WS members have already paid for their seats. They can choose not to turn up but their seat is still reserved for them. The remaining seats available to the general public go on sale 2 weeks prior to each home game. When these are exhausted, it's 'sold out'.

anyway, how good was it to have Parra Stadium near capacity for a league game? That crowd number would've been down at least 5k if it had been scheduled on Thursday night at live on FTA.

end Thursday night footy.

The truth hurts. A top 4 of Parra, Souths, Dogs and Tigers is better for the game than Manly/Easts/Penrith being up there.

Tigers? With the lowest membership of any Sydney club? Lol.

Put the knights in the top 4 for a few years and they would average about 4-5k more than what they sit on now and would be 2nd in averages behind the broncos. Tigers would probably move up maybe 2k.

The weather is not much good in Brisbane or Sydney today. The Broncos and Rabbitohs crowds might be underwhelming.

What a load of sh*t. First of all memberships don't always reflect crowd numbers. Just look at the dogs, they have basically been top of crowds in Sydney for years despite membership numbers that aren't very impressive. The tigers have shown they can get damn good crowds when they're in form.

Also the tigers in form are great for away crowds in Sydney, even this year they're close to the top team for crowds if you include away games. If Parra/tigers/dogs/souths were at the top you would see a lot of monster crowds in Sydney.

I agree though that an in form knights would be good for crowd numbers. It's one of the reasons this years numbers aren't looking so great, the top 3 teams are all averaging f*ck all in terms of crowds. They also bring absolutely nothing to the table in terms of away crowds (except for 1 or 2 games a year for the roosters).

The Panthers (and I imagine the other sides mentioned as well) can get 17k+ when going well and given appropriate scheduling. There are conflicting priorities, though aren't there. People want to sit on their bum and watch it on TV on Monday nights and bums on seats in loungerooms wins over bums on seats in stadiums.

end Thursday night footy.

It was also good to see a stadium 90% full which added to a great atmosphere and far more enjoyable game to watch. Pss off Thursday and Monday nights, pss off anz stadium except for blockbusters and get some decent 25k stadiums developed in Sydney.

Problem is having really poor seats to put those bums on is going to be a major factor in if to go or not, especially if it is a night game and weather isn't great. I don't blame families for not going to Penrith on a cold wet Saturday night, a cold wet Saturday night at somewhere like aami is far more acceptable.

Yes there are competing interests but the sport needs to decide by 2017 what it considers more important.

Neither point is true about Souths. Manly and Easts and Penrith yes but not Souths.

Yeah i meant 3 of the top 4. It's embarrassing how low they are.

I'm of the opinion that Sunday is an underrated time for tv ratings. Basically it gets much worse games than on a Friday night, it gets advertised far less AND the games are still f*cking delayed. If i'm not working the only games i don't watch every week are the 2nd Friday game and the ch9 sunday game. Delayed games are BS and should be a thing of the past.

They should be getting back to back live games on Sunday and actually advertise them a lot, get people to sit around and have a BBQ and watch the game. I don't think it will ever be able to match say Friday night for ratings but they could certainly be higher. At the very least i will guarantee they will provide better ratings than the pitiful 2nd Friday night and saturday night games (i mean the 9.30 timeslot).

There is also the other whole issue that what's normally shown on a Sunday basically rates f*ck all. So if you can actually get something to rate decently it should be a huge improvement on whatever is normally shown.

We need to be getting rid of delayed games and games that are played at the same time. I don't even mind if we have Monday night games, i actually quite like them. We just need to work out how to actually make them more of an event (kinda like the NFL).

Certainly the smallest Suncorp crowd I've seen since we got those couple of sub-20K turnouts in the mid-2000s. Wasn't it something like 15K against the Tigers and/or Parra?

Actually, after looking at the reverse angles and the middle tiers, it may not be as low as first thought. Perhaps around the 20K mark. The lower deck directly opposite camera hasn't been the best indicator over the past couple of years (stadium members I presume?).
