Dont worry about it.
They learn nothing from previous years, where the Cows dont get any support in Sydney, you think they would learn but they never do.

Super league was right and the game took the wrong bet, now we are forever playing catch-up.
No local Sydney club should ever play in the 80 thousand white elephant, unless it is a semi or final, and that is only part of the games problem, common sense is over-looked in our code.

Looking like a good sunny day, theres 80,000 seats to fill and two of sydneys biggest clubs fans to fill them up lets see how it goes. And one of the tigers former greats returning to play them after leaving in odd circumstances, so should be packed out

Oh wait its rugby league 20k

Sydney has 1 million more people than Melbourne. For some reason, and this goes back 60 or 70 years, they draw on average double to their prime club competition than we do to ours. When has a regular season NRL game in Sydney ever drawn 72,000 (aside from double headers)?

League has beaten union mate

They are basically broke in au

The problem we have is the disenfranchised union fan is more likely to jump to afl than NRL

We need ru to run a perennial 3rd to help NRL

You get plenty of western force jerseys at NRL games in Perth, I'd suggest the kiwi and SA RU fans are far more likely to watch RL than afl.

A lot of that can be put down to league's access to poker machines via their leagues clubs.

This guaranteed revenue stream mean they didn't have to work hard on crowds to survive. Melbourne, I dont believe, had the same fallback.

There are probably some major cultural differences that contribute to this as well.

Maybe its just that most of us grew up in RL golden years of 80s

Probably over estimating RL popularity from 1908-1975 based on our 80s experience

Golden years? You do know that NSWRL crowds were lower in the 80s than any other post WW2 decade? In fact average crowds in the 80s were about half what they are now.

Dogs/Cowboys was played in Gosford last year and got 12k in. 3k more by playing it an hour up the road. Wish they'd done it that way.

Semi-decent crowed in Auckland for a 4pm local time on a cold Sunday arvo isn't the most (family) friendly of times

Melbournians tend to have more of a 'go to sports' culture than Sydneysiders. No idea why. But you put on the world chess championships in either city, and Melb will get bigger crowds.

On the NRL front, they really havent tried hard to develop crowds for 50-60 years. We are now playing catchup - and encouraging signs im recent years for clubs like Souths, Bulldogs, Eels all recording a growth over the last 5-6 yrs.

You cant be at the summit immediately, as long as they start climbing the mountain.

Anz: 22k on a clear Sunday afternoon between 2 Sydney teams. Underwhelming, I thought Sunday afternoon would bring 30k a least with it being the ideal timeslot for league fans yet no shows. 2 of the biggest nsw teams only 22k what the excuses this time.
