Clubs could be financially hit if they don't grow crowds (amongst other expectations)

A funding shake-up of NRL clubs, which now each receive an annual grant of $7.5 million from a central fund, will also be introduced from November
Clubs that fail to meet agreed “minimum standards” will be in jeopardy of losing up to $1 million in annual funding.

But if they achieve “stretch targets” in areas such as membership recruitment, merchandising sales and ticket sales they will receive incentives.

“They will be sensible standards, agreed with each club individually,’’ Mr Smith said.

The standards could include annual business plans, monthly financial reports and appointing skilled directors.

Comic book jerseys are nothing to do with it.

It's the grand final of their comp. It's not throat slitting time if they do get a one off big crowd.

Honestly strong RU is good for NRL

Did enfranchised RU fans will support afl. Or anything other than mungo ball

We need them to stay supporting the number 3 game.

Not helping the true enemy

League has beaten union mate

They are basically broke in au

The problem we have is the disenfranchised union fan is more likely to jump to afl than NRL

We need ru to run a perennial 3rd to help NRL

You can't sit there and make a direct comparison between the Super Rugby FINAL and a Round 21 club game... ridiculous.

Yep I'm the first to get dogs kudos for building crowds to over 20,k average etc

But tonight was crap

If you flicked between foxtel stations tonight we looked like dead set 3rd division sport compares to 39k at sfs and 77k at MCG

I know its just a club game. But we can't just call them just a club game any more

Swans v hawks was just a club game too remember

IMO, more than anything else, have more of an impact on the casual observer. Everyone who ever watches a game of anything can see the crowd. A very small percentage of people take the time to look at ratings figures.

Image wise that crowd at anz was a disaster for the code. Something needs done in a big way not just short window sales periods advertised on social media but a far reahing game wide strategy for match day and lower ticket prices.

Part of that strategy imo should be reducing the competition to 22 games, simply too many games at the moment that just hold no interest for the casual fan let alone hardcore fans like here on the forum.

That game should never be played at a venue like that.

It is because the club gets guaranteed money, but there needs to be more criteria than just, we didn't lose money.

Once again any ideas why that was played at the Olympic Stadium?

It normally isnt.
