crowd watch 2014 part IV

The knights crowd today wasn't the biggest of the year but man was it awesome to be apart of. Knights crowds can often be really quiet but they got right into the match today (the fight certainly helped with that). Really great atmosphere to be apart of.

There could be a revision of the Panthers crowd. I got there for Holden Cup kick off and the scanners weren't working. A girl was tallying the crowd on a piece of paper.

If there was only 13K there today then the capacity of the ground needs to be revised. There's just no way that's the actual crowd.

Finals week 1 should have some cracking crowds,
Souths vs Manly should draw 35k
Easts vs Penrith should get close to 30k
Storm vs Bulldogs should just about sell out
North Queensland vs Brisbane will sell out

However, if all the favs win, week 2 of the finals:
Manly vs Melbourne at SFS
Penrith vs North Queensland at ANZ

both games will be lucky to get 20k I think

I think we used to fudge our crowds, that 13k seemed bigger than past 15k crowds. Not the first time recently it has felt that way.

NRL will hope that dogs can beat Melbourne to add 25k to week 2 crowd,,, but no chance

I really doubt that Easts v Penrith will get 30k and Storm v Bulldogs will sellout - would love to be proved wrong though.

Last time Easts v Penrith played in a Week 2 final they managed just 23k, and Melbourne have never got more than 20k for a Week 1 or Week 2 final at AAMI Park.

Even Souths v Manly getting 35k might be a bit of a stretch considering the prelim last year got just 44k and Manly fans reputation for not travelling.

Yeah traditionally week 1 struggles to meet expectations...

Making ST holders all rebuy their seat in a 4 day window has always struggled.

NRL really need to pump up the media, marketing, get players talking, etc and fast

15,905 was the final average, only 35 people per game short of last year's 15,940. Good effort after a soaked August.

Manly Vs Souths should get a big crowd, Im expected around 35,000 but I hope there's more.

Roosters Vs Penrith maybe 30,000 or less.

Cowboys Vs Broncos, no brainer, thats a sell out.

Storm Vs Bulldogs, given there is no AFL game, should get more than 20,000.

We'll get a better week 1 finals than last year.

Souths fans will out number Manly fans 2 to 1. It'll be something like 12k Manly fans and twice as many Souths fans.

I'm glad you didn't try to work out how many Souths fans that would be, you may have hurt yourself.

Manly v Souths by 16 - 27,000
Roosters v Penrith by 10 - 22,000
Cowboys v Broncos by 8 - 26,000 (sellout)
Storm v Bulldogs by 4 - 18,000

That would leave Panthers v Dogs at ANZ and Manly v Cowboys at Allianz (in front of the standard 13k) in week 2.

Might be a bit hopeful lol

Bulldogs crowd was the same...Under announced. Watch Dragons game that was 13k then Bulldogs and last night all were announced the same. Yet weren't all same size

Ive been all over the world, Ive been to NBA games, NFL games, EPL, World Cups in all both Rugby Codes and Soccer etc. but being a League fan first and foremost there is NOTHING like a packed Townsville stadium when we play the Broncos in the finals.

The walk to the stadium in 2004 was something else, it was party time in the streets, it was the equivalent of a tailgate party but on a citywide scale (BBQ in the yard, streamers supporters etc.) The players get treated like Rock Stars and the everyone in the place contributes to the event.

This is something unique that we have that Union or AFL don't have, an entire regional area that can be part of a national competition.

lol at 12000 manly fans showing up.

You will be lucky to get 10k manly fans. fortunately there will be about 20k souths fans to keep the crowd decent. With a bit of luck manly will go out in straight sets.

The worrying crowd will be easts v Penrith, Penrith neither club have a very good fan base.
