Agree. I follow both codes and as a Hawthorn supporter thought 38K was a great crowd. In fact 38K is solid in just about any sport anywhere in the world. I don't know how many 30K+ NRL crowds there have been this season, but the biggest crowd I have EVER seen Storm play in front of is 33K.
Also, it would cost the AFL a fortune to have all of their ANZ games run as 'major events' - but it would surely have a positive effect on crowds. Should the NRL invest? Yes of course.
Swans fans would agree that ANZ is better for rectangle sports. Hopefully after 2016 they can play all games @ SCG and they can reconfigure ANZ for its major tenant.
Crowds at most sports are increasing. Time to stop comparing.

You're talking about in Sydney (V Souths or Dragons Prelim) or Melbourne (V Parra Prelim) right?

I think the last time Brisbane v Melbourne drew less than 33k at Suncorp was finals week one in 2005?

I do agree with you - as soon as a crowd moves into the 30,000 region, regardless of who is playing, it looks like a decent figure - until we obnoxiously critique it.

Saturday 5pm in Auckland looks to be a winner for crowds

Sat 3pm crowds so far

Warriors V Sharks- 15,209
Canberra V Bulldogs- 11,847
Dragons V Tigers- 15,016
Warriors V Raiders- 15,121

Pretty good considering the raiders and dragons crowds for the slot are above their averages for the year. The NRL has to make sure this happens in the winter months next season and onward.

Plus from a tv perspective it means all 3 games can be shown live which i'm loving right now. Just need to get rid of that terrible delayed Friday night game and i'll be very happy. The sunday evening and Thursday night slots seem like the best bets there.

If there are not adverts on FTA this week for the friday game then NRL marketing really are clueless. FFS i seen the one community advert on nine at 6.45pm today!! A prime advertising spot that should be used to promote attendance not bloody community work for some vein project to improve the games image to posh mums who hate it anyway

Manly could still finish with their worst crowd average in 9 years.

And Gus Gould is predicting a sellout next week 80,000+

I'm relatively conservative. It'll be more than 50 but probably less than 60.
