I'm pretty sure a number of you were expressing incredulity at a typo. I was there last night, and the figure they announced at the ground was 20,416. I honestly thought from the number of empty seats I could see there weren't that many, but then again I couldn't really tell how full the Southern end was where I was seated. There certainly were plenty of Saints fans there - I saw red and white all around the ground, not just in the away supporters bay. If it's true there were 23k pre-sold, then I'm guessing a combination of cold weather and the swine-flew bullsh*t kept a few people away.

As for ticket prices, I've never been to a game in Sydney, but I've been to a number at Lang Park, Robina, and the Gabba, and not just league, and the prices have been pretty much comparable at all events since 1999 (when I moved to Brisbane) when inflation is factored in. I suspect SEQ prices are inflated a bit due to the large amounts of money the Qld Government borrowed to do major upgrades at Lang Park and the Gabba and build the stadium at Robina, all 3 of which are brilliant grounds for watching their respective sports. I perosnally don't find $29 excessive, but then I only go to a handful of games a year. The food and beverage prices are absolute ripoffs at all grounds, hence why I always eat before/after I go (depending on the time) or else I make some sangas.

It would be a GREAT crowd

Earlier this year when the Dragons played the Broncos at Suncorp, easily 30% were Dragons supporters.

At the very least!

It used to be the case with the Eels too, but their support up in Brisbane seems to have dropped away a bit in recent years.

But when it comes to the Dragons, Dogs, Cowboys and Titans, there's usually 40% there cheering for the opposition.

Some clubs may do specials depending on who and where they are playing but generally tickets are the same price as NRL. WC Eagles cost $25-55 for a seat and have no problem packing 42,000 in every week.

Essendon v Melbourne... kids under 6 yrs = $1.25, 6 - 14 yrs = $3.45, family (2 adults, 2 juniors) = $22.60.

Is that a bad thing? If NRL ticket prices were that cheap we would have more people go to the game.

Let's see, 17,000 tickets at an average of $20 per person = $340,000

45,000 tickets at an average of $6 per person = $270,000

Now, factor that argument in with the situation where only two of the grounds we use in Sydney can fit anywhere near that many people in, and you'll probably see why that argument might not work with most clubs. Particularly since many are scrounging for cash as it is.

I am sure you would also be aware that the 45 000 people at the match buy pies and drinks along with merchandise compared with the 17 000...

As said some games are special pricing. here is the price for decent seats at the EssendonvCarlton game
Adult $43.35 Children 6-14 Years $10.10 Children 5 and Under $7.90 Concession $32.85 Family of 4 (2 Adults & 2 Children) $100.10

AFL in Perth is even more expensive so can we stop using the "pricing" excuse for our low attendances.

I know it'll never happen but i would love to see standard pricing throughout the League of $20 for adults and $5 for kids, Family ticket $45 2 adults and as many kids as you have.

In comparison to a meal out or a night at Gold class cinema the footy is probably priced fairly and with memberships adding much better value high gate prices may eventually encourage more ticketed memberships which is a good thing.

Second best (Gold class) tickets at a Titans game go for.

Adult - $42
Concession- $35
Junior (12 yrs & under) - $25
Family (1 adt + 1 jnr) - $58
Family (2 adt + 2 jnrs) - $116

AFL prices in Perth are high because it's the only show in town.

The kids prices are great, but I've never seen a family ticket for $22. Link?

Edit: worked it out, that is the adult price, which you get charged x 2 as a family ticket so total all up about $45 plus booking fee to sit on the top level.

There is no doubt the Swine hysteria killed the crowd at Suncorp tonight. It stripped this big match of between 10-15,000 fans.

The smallest Broncos' home crowd of the season thus far.

Still a reasonable crowd in Auckland given the conditions... their average has improved out of sight. While swine flu cruelled the Broncos crowd tonight I think they still could've done better, a few crowds below 30k now this year IIRC, they need to improve that IMO. Still fantastic figures though.

I was actually quite shocked to see those nos. for the Broncos game.
People in NSW and Q'ld. seem to be taking the swine flu very seriously compared to the Vics.

The crowd for the Warriors game was really good considering the conditions.
Has the swine flu hit NZ yet...haven't really heard much about it.

They had the second most cases outside Mexico when it first broke out, not sure now though.
