Crowd Watch Thread 2009

Looked like there were 12,000 St. George fans there last night.

Appaling crowds.

Probably 10-12k out of a crowd of 15k.

It was surprising that 3-5k Tigers fans even bothered showing up. We're sick to death of playing at neutral venues and enduring each capitulation by this sh*thouse side led by the
senile wanker, Tim Sheens.

The Tigers have led the crowd averages in Sydney for the last 4 years, however the decline this year reflects our dissatisfaction with scheduling games at SFS and the abject mediocrity of the side.

What I can't understand is why league supporters in NSW don't attend their team games and yet get 80,000 (awesome crowd) to SOO.

After the Roosters/Sharks game flicked across to have a look at the crowd for the Wallabies match...looked to be about 50,000 there.
The ARU must have been disappointed with the crowd of 20,000 for the Wallabies match in Melb. last weekend.

Mind boggling!

Alot of the Sydney clubs!

7,000 for two Sydney teams playing each other (all be it in poor form at the moment) is terrible.

The Finances, the stadium, just no fans. If only Politis had been a Souths supporter...

...Short of some form of perfect storm of calamities like the one that hit Norths, they're going nowhere. Shame that.

Well to be fair it should've been two at the SCG and none at SFS but the Sheffield Shield and it's 400 spectators took precedence.

It's part of the same deal, so you need to count the two. If they take the SFS games back to ANZ, they wont be able to play at the SCG.

Tigers vs Souths games always draw big crowds.

Last year we did a deal with the SCG to play 2 games there (Dragons and Souths), the Dragons one was moved due to the Pura Cup Final being on the same day. Against Souths at the SCG last year we drew a healthy crowd of over 20000 (can't remember the figure, but it was around 25000), even if we didn't do the deal, we'd draw 20k+ at Leichhardt. At ANZ last year we drew upwards of 20000 for Souths home game. The move to the SCG had little effect on the crowd. For our 5 games at the SFS, we'll be lucky to average over 15000 the way we are going.

Actually Tigs/Souffs @ SCG only drew 19k last year.

This year it got 29k.

My point was, the assumption that you cant play home games at both Homebush and Moore Park in the same season is incorrect.

So what's Parra's excuse? Sunday afternoon, decent weather, decent stadium in the burbs, playing the Broncos. Why the frick are people not turning up to games?

they're should be only 4-5 teams (max.) in Sydney.

the look of stadia filled to quarter capacity in the game's stronghold does little to advertise the game as an event to attend here, or in development areas such as Melnbourne or Perth. in contrast, you have thousands of socially inept swans fans who end up at their game due to the appearance of the AFL comp as the event to attend...........80k to Essendon vs Carlton on Friday night is a decent advert for their game.

the elite comp of rugby league has been hurt by an unsustainable structure in place to suit tv. what incentive is there to go to a game when its packaged live against the gate or as a double-header in the same market.
