The amount was court ordered, was it not?

Considering his behaviour and actions he got off extremely lightly in my opinion, and is beyond lucky to have an NRL career.

I can't believe he was even being considered for captaincy, by the way.

It is Brisbane, one of the toilet trio was named club captain, any dream is possible in Brisvegas.

Curtis should be sending a fat cheque to Izzy for taking the limelight from him.
Think he should be keeping his powder on the fat cheque front... i have a suspicion he'll be needing to write a VERY fat one, once the Raiders/NRL are done with him

Going to need a big one for a lawyer also. Everyone seems to think he will just get a slap on the wrist for this...might not be the case.

Oh it'll definitely be the case.
He's not going to see jail time for this, he'll get a good behaviour bond, a fine and recorded conviction. The NRL will suspend him 8-12 weeks and fine him heavily, the Raiders will put a "plan" in place and wheels will keep turning, and either he muck up again and we'll be looking at sackings etc, or it'll be a wake up call and 12 months from now no one cares ALA Wighton.

That's just how this shit works
FWIW he is planning to "vigorously defend" the charges so that'll be interesting.

Especially considering the cam footage is available.

Either one side is bluffing or one side is so pissed they can't remember it...

Pfft Wighton was going to defend his charges also, then we saw the video.

A guy got jailed for 18 months for spitting at on a cop last year but I am glad you are confident. Spitting is common assault, which Curtis has two charges to defend.

Yeah but was the bloke an nrl player?

Wighton got 10 weeks suspension for punching one of his own fans seeking an autograph. Now he's an Origin star, kangaroo and his profile is on the up. The NRL should have got tough, but didn't. His lawyers did very well to suppress the CCTV until the outrage died down.

This will be dealt with lightly by the NRL. I reckon by the courts as well.

I feel for raiders fans

we recruited Barba last season as our marquee recruit

his sacking (as well as other factors) was part of why we sucked arse last season

the club would have based so many decisions on Scott’s recruitment

Without knowing anything else about that case your referencing, i would bet significant money that guy was probably already serving a suspended sentence and was well known to both police and the judicial system.

If he got 18 months for a first time offence for spitting at a police officer, then he should sue his representation for gross negligence.
To my knowledge, Curtis Scott has no prior convictions and certainly he'll be given the best representation money can buy in this country. If he is indeed a "first time" offender, there is exactly ZERO chance he gets jail time for this

Whether that's right, or fair or just... i dont know (well actually i do, i think its pretty f**ked from my personal POV). But it is how the courts system generally work in this country. Particularly inner city, some local courts out in the rural areas can sometimes throw up some curve balls re: sentencing.

Courts always will NRL hit and miss

Walker didn't do jail time still missed time.
Tyrone May likely will get a bond and missed a year.
Musgrove got sacked...no jail time.

So anywhere from a nice letter from Toddy to time out of the game can be the punishment

A lot has happened since the wighton incident though. And it’s one thing to go soft on someone for punching punters in a night club, bit different when the guy was punching cops who were apparently trying to help him. The nrl looks pretty bad right now, rape charges, domestic violence charges, a church stabbing, assaulting police....V’landys May decide to come down hard and the set the tone for his time in charge.

Also a lot rests with the Raiders. They could sack him on the spot. But they haven't, like they didn't with Wighton. They seem to like dragging their feet, unless they are sitting in the passenger seat of their own car.

Other clubs have been first movers: Barba by Cowboys, Carney by Sharks (ended up costing us)

It was outside the night club. A fan asking for an autograph apparently.

Michelle Bridges is charged with DUI while driving with a child in her car.

Curtis Scott was woken from a drunken sleep by cops and lashed out.

Both crimes are stupid. Yet...

The Daily Telegraph reporting on both - Michelle deserves “empathy”, Curtis Scott risks being/should be rubbed out of the game.

Whose crime was worse....

Well one of these people put a child’s life at risk, and those of the other motorists while driving under the influence of alcohol... The other was a risk to trained police after waking him from a drunken stupor.

Yet one deserved our empathy, one deserves to be stood down indefinitely from his job..
