Ok so everyone has cried out in support of Dykes to keep his decision should Anasta come across, but we're forgetting that one of our best players this year has been our # 13.
Does Paul Gallen really deserve to be replaced?

No he doesn't but Gallen can be just as effective as a second rower. As a lock he is great but not a typical ball playing lock. Even his offloads are more in the mould of a second rower IMO.

Lock, in the traditional sense, is just about redundant. It's a position that I feel is being redefined all the time. When you look at all the clubs there is barely 2 locks that play the same style. There are ball players like Croker and Timmins. Hit up merchants like Gallen. Scouts like Manzies. Wide running locks like Fulton and Koopu. That's just to name a few. Locks don't even tend to play the traditional covering role anymore. They can't. With compressed defences you need that extra man in the line

The way I see locks evolving is that teams now have 3 backrowers and the number on their back doesn't matter.

Exactly.
I will even go further & say that there is no difference between the forwards at all.
they have a role rather than a position & sometimes they stick their head in a scrum.
well most of the time, Gall doesnt even do that. He always takes it of the half back when we have a scrum in our own half.

You could even argue that Gall plays more like a front rower.

Dykes hooker , Anasta, hilder gone, would be 3 ordinary decisions there.

Hilder is hooker for defense, not attacking options, Dykes is too good a 5/8 to be hooker.

Anasta, well what can i say, spend the money on a centre, we don't need him the 5/8 we have now is way better.

Then we have Bird V Anasta, whats bird on, what does anasta want, can't see any value in that swap.

Dykes- Stays put
Anasta- Lock
Hilder- stays put

Not bad I say. IMO Braith has a hell of a lot more skill then Bird hence the money he wants. I see Braith as an extra half out wide who could create many oppurtunities as a ball running forward for our centres and wingers. Something Bird cant do.

Exactly maroubra.
Instead of the club thinking that this is the yaear, they are thinking ahead & looking to strengthen weak positions.
The Bird role is weak in my opinion.
anasta would be worth whatever money he wants. Defense, kicking, catching, smart between the ears, no suspensions, & good off field behaviour.

Unreal.

I think Anasta is a d*ckhead, but I dont know why we would lose Hilder etc provided Anasta plays at lock, and NOT 5/8. The side could look like this....

Peachey (Or Merritt/Simmons)
Simmons (Or Merritt)
Vagana
Mellor (Maybe someone else.......)
Covell
Dykes
Kimmorley
???????? in Place of Stevens
Hilder
Nutley
Bailey
Gallen
Anasta

Williams
Hutch
Sullivan
Leulawai

Looks very solid to me and would mean we only lose Bird, who I think is ok but Id take Anasta over him anyway somehow.

Do not mind the idea of Anasta playing lock if we picked him up. Could play two off the ruck on one side and Dykes the same on the other. Also another variant to our kicking game apart from Noddy, Dykes and Hilder. He has also showed in the past few weeks he can make some meters if he does decide to take a hit up.
Gallen would go just as well in the second row and Williams to the bench. Strong forward pack.

Will wait with interest to see how events unfold.

F*%K off Anasta!!!

Id rather have Hilder and Sullivan chewing up less salary cap space than this turd getting 300,000+

Bird has the talent, just starting to realise it.

Personally I'd rather another good centre, i think it would offer us more value than another playmaker.

Another ET would do :)

News is Hilder wants to go to England for the money but, and i cant blame him, if you had the choice of earning double somewhere why the hell not go....

Folkes had a word to Anasta last year about playing lock and was told in no uncertain terms no.

So I'd be very surprised if he came here and played lock.

Unless he thinks it's his best option into rep footy?

Interesting, I have often wondered if he likes playing hooker, especially seeing as he gets limited time.

hmmmm...

Or.

He had bargaining power on where he played through taking 2 pay cuts in 2 years.

I guess I never thought of moving Gallen into the second row:oops: . It would be some second row: Bailey Gallen Anasta. But I agree its money we could spend on positions like centre.

Incidently Laurie Daley & Brad Fittler were both class 5/8 who were known to play a bit of centre. Could we buy him for that reason? ;-)

Or would having Anasta, Dykes, Kimmorley, Peachey & Sullivan be a case of too many cooks?
