Daily Terrorgraph: Secret negotations for Kangaroos/Wallabies hybrid match next year

It will probably never happen and just be the way Union gets to mention league in every article for the next year so someone reads about their sport.

EXACTLY!

Why the hell would you allow this?

Union can't get a look in at the moment in the press, and now they want to leech off of us YET AGAIN.

What does this prove? If Stodgling Matlock wants to take on the might of Greg Inglis, he can sign a contract with the Raiders.

Not interested in this at all. If it happens I hope no Dragons take part and risk injury in a pointless kick and giggle exercise.

It would actually be a lot easier to just let union die in Australia...

This would give union and its players massive exposure to the general public who otherwise don't normally watch them. The public couldn't name who the Wallaby team is at the moment.

According to the poll everyone already believes that the Kangaroos are light years ahead anyway.

I'd only play it if the ruleset is in RL's favour.

Looking at the way the ARL negotiated the television contracts I doubt there ability to not be pushed over by RU swinging the rules in their favour.

This will never happen.

Can you see clubs releasing their players for this match? f**k, they struggle releasing them for RL internationals. I forsee a lot of "knee operations" if it does go ahead...from both sides.

Rules, well the breakdown is the real focus these days of both teams, League and union. What would you do, play the ball, ruck or maul. Rucks ain't that technical, despite what union players tell you, mauls a little more so,( or at least getting them rolling is). A quick play the ball and roll, conversely slowing it down if you are the defense is the difference between good and ordinary teams in league. A simple game of touch footy, restricted to forwards (league v union) would soon show who was the most athletic. But otherwise, don't think a hybrid game would prove much at all.

Shouldn't the World Cup runners-up be spending most of October 2009 working out how to win an International tournament (which would be just a couple of weeks away) rather than this nonesense?

aye they should be prepping for the 4 nations up here next october..

When i read the headline I thought it was a joke, but it was written by Paul Kent and he isn't the typical DT doomsayer. The ARL would have to be crazy to even consider this. After reports in the news a few months ago that RU's war chest from the RUWC 2003 is empty and they are struggling for crowds, ratings, sponsors, for RL to contemplate for one second taking part in the ARU fundraising exercise is puire insanity.

Pointless for rugby league. If anything Australian rugby union is the one who needs a boost in terms of domestic significance. The A-League is well and truly running, rugby league is just about to sign off for the year after the upset of the century, and union is probably getting less press time than Ben Cousins in Victoria.

The ARL should tell the ARU to piss off! I wouldn't trust the rah rahs one bit! They want the their baby back that left 100 years ago!

but it'll be the biggest event since the 2000 olympics and it is for the kids....

Pity the Aussie fans gave no respect to the WC in Sydney. Melbourne and Brisbane have truly shown Sydney right up! 9 clubs that average 10,000!! Cull the SYdney clubs to 5, add WA, another Qld and CC in 2012, then we'll see if Sydney deserves more international football.

Hybrid games are always won by the side that gets to retain most of their ruleset. Lineouts, rucks...come on, those two items alone will decide the contest. Rugby is much more technical than league, league is much more fitness and athletisism. Sure you can merge the two codes, players can go back and forth but the one thing you cant really do is play a one off hybrid game and not expect that it will be anything other than biased towards one side or another.

I don't like this... it is one step closer to Denis Fitzgerald's vision....

As I have been calling for a while - Piss Colin Love off!

Why didn't the ARL come out to deny it first. Again, an example of an inept organisation. Whilst it might not seem like much, to the average idiot on the street this now makes it appear that Union is saying no to League.

Nah its better this way, it looks like the ARU is running scared ;)

I don't like the idea. Leave em to rot.

Sides... a RL try = 4 points. An RU field goal = 3 points. Says a lot about their game.
