Callaway replaces Scandrick on 53 men roster

The Cowboys have placed cornerback Orlando Scandrick on Injured Reserve and over DT Robert Callaway from the Practise Squad to the 53 men roster.

Scandrick has been suffering from a hand injury. With Jay Ratliff not being available for the Bengals game tomorrow this move had to be made to strengthen the defensive line.

The Josh Brent situation obviously explains bringing in Callaway.

Very sad indeed. On two counts.

The first and most importantly the death of Jerry Brown. Not many people knew who Jerry Brown was. Even most Cowboys dans didnt even know him. Here we had a young man who had been around a few NFL teams just looking for the right home. Even though he was just on the practise squad he hoped he had found it in Dallas. It was the team where his former college teammate and friend josh Brent played. Sadly we will never find out if he was going to make it, with Dallas or any other team.

Josh Brent was in his forth season with Dallas. He had played mostly as backup NT to Jay Ratliff. This season with Ratliff suffering from injury and missing games Brent had played much more. He was never going to be a star, but he was developing in to a solid starter.

Today we lost two men, one to death and the other to a long stretch in prison.

Dez Bryant possibly heading for IR

It hasn't been a good year for injuries with the Cowboys. It could quite possibly get a whole lot worse. Some news reports have Bryant already on IR. but that's not official.

The team is getting him checked out by a specialist for a possible torn ligament in his finger. If it is torn it will require surgery and he is gone for the season.

Free losing some playing time to Parnell

A couple of years back the Cowboys signed OT Doug Free to a big money contract. Unfortunately he has never lived up to the big contract. This season they moved him from left to right tackle, swapping with Tyron Smith. It still hasn't helped Free, who is one of the most penalised players in the NFL. He gets beaten a lot by pass rushing DEs.

A few weeks young Jeremy Parnell filled in for the injured Smith at LOT and did a pretty good job. Since Smiths return, Parnell is getting a fair bit more playing time relieving Free at ORT. Parnell has done an OK job in relief.

Their is speculation that Pernell could replace Free as starter.

big blow if he goes on IR
he's been pretty good for them lately, but trying to catch darts with a fractured finger is going to be pretty hard for him

Cowboys add cornerback to roster

The Cowboys have added veteran cornerback Michael Coe to the 53-man roster by claiming him off waivers from the Dolphins.

Coe has spent the majority of this season with the Giants, including two games against the Cowboys. In fact, because of injuries to New York’s secondary, Coe started the regular-season opener against the Cowboys.

To make room on the roster, Dallas waived cornerback Vince Agnew, who played four games this season.

Coe (6-1, 190) joins the fifth team of his five-year career. Along with the Dolphins and Giants, he has also played with the Buccaneers and Colts, who drafted him in the fifth round in 2007 out of Alabama State. Coe spent most of his collegiate career at Arkansas.

The addition of Coe, who has plenty of special teams ability, is likely a strong upgrade from Agnew, but could give the Cowboys more experience at cornerback, especially if rookie Morris Claiborne isn’t ready to play Sunday against the Steelers.

Claiborne suffered lacerations to his face on a sideline hit that left him motionless for a few moments before he was able to walk off the field and straight to the locker room while holding a towel to his face to contain the bleeding. There is a possibility that Claiborne also suffered a concussion, although head coach Jason Garrett said Monday he was unsure if the cornerback was indeed diagnosed with a concussion or any other head injury.

Coe might give the Cowboys another player who could help in the slot, a position vacated when Orlando Scandrick went down with a broken hand. Scandrick was placed on IR this past week.

With the addition of Coe and subtraction of Agnew, the Cowboys now also have Claiborne, Brandon Carr, Mike Jenkins and Sterling Moore on the active roster at the cornerback position.

That Victor Butler does some good things when he comes on

Two things go against Butler. First being he is inconsistent. The second being he is not an every down player.

This is his forth season and I would have thought he would have showed a little more by now.

Cowboys team officials did not know that Josh Brent would be on the sideline during the Steelers game

I have to say I was surprised to see Brent on the sideline yesterday. It seems that Dallas team officials were as surprised as I was.

It appears only the players knew that Brent would be there.

Brandon Carr Named NFC Defensive Player of the Week

Cornerback Brandon Carr was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week.

Carr becomes the first non-special teams winner since Tony Romo last season against San Francisco. Carr is the Cowboys’ first defensive winner since Sean Lee in 2010.

Cowboys QB Tony Romo’s interception rate is second-lowest in NFL in last six weeks

By Rainer Sabin / Reporter

IRVING – It was after a deflating loss to Chicago when quarterback Tony Romo vented his frustration. He had just completed one of his worst performances of his career, throwing five interceptions against a Bears team that stormed out of Cowboys Stadium with a 16-point victory in early October.
“I’m going to have to reassess a couple of things that are happening and make sure that they don’t happen again,” Romo said then.
Romo has done just that. After committing 15 turnovers in his first seven games, Romo has given away the ball only four times since. Perhaps even more impressive is the fact that Romo’s interception percentage is the second-lowest in the NFL in the last six weeks. Not surprisingly the Cowboys have thrived during that stretch, going 5-1.
“He’s just not making very many bad plays,” head coach Jason Garrett said. “He’s done a great job with the football. Both his decision-making, his care of the football has been really good. It certainly has to continue. It’s really an important part of winning football in this league.”
But Romo said he’s only a small part of the equation in the Cowboys’ ongoing effort to limit the mistakes. Asked why the Cowboys have succeeded in an area they had struggled so mightily in not too long ago, Romo said the reasons are manifold.
“It’s a lot of little things,” he said. “Part of it is we are not making errors, decision-making in the routes. We are being where we are supposed to be. There is protection stuff that has been better.
Me making a decision has been better. It’s a little bit of everything.”
