If you believe that Morris Claiborne has lost confidence after his troubles in Philadelphia, if you’re convinced he’s anxious heading into this weekend’s game, you don’t know the rookie cornerback.

Not only does Claiborne expect Cleveland to target him Sunday afternoon, he welcomes it.

“I hope so,’’ Claiborne said. “I feel it’s a blessing.

“I know guys are going to come out (and say), ‘well, just throw it up there. We’re either going to catch it or get a penalty.’

“That’s why I have to play smart and go up and attack the ball.’’

Claiborne has been praised all season for his strong performance. A phrase you often heard from coaches and teammates was how he didn’t look like a rookie.

The team’s win over the Eagles was the first time that didn’t hold true. Claiborne was hit with five penalties and gave up a touchdown, his second of the season.

There is already one adjustment Claiborne will make against the Browns. Instead of using his hands to feel where the receiver is when he turns his head to run, he will try to make contact with his body.

The rookie has not tried to hide after his performance. He has told teammates in practice this week not to mess with him. After all, he’s the man with five penalties.

“I’ve got to have amnesia,’’ Claiborne said. “Let it go, whether it’s a good play or a bad play.

“I’m always positive. Something bad happen, I’m always trying to look forward. I’m like, how can I make a play to make other people forget it because I’ve already forgot it.

“But I know you guys (media) aren’t going to forget it.’’
Good point.

“I’ve just got to make the best of the situation,’’ Claiborne said. “When they do throw, I’ve got to seize the moment and go make a play.

“There’s not sense me beating myself up over it.’’

Cowboys release WR Andre Holmes

The Cowboys have released second year receiver Andre Holmes. The team had hopes for the 6-5 teall receiver, but things just didn't work out. He has caught just two passes this season.

It is thought that the team will sign free agent receiver Anthony Armstrong who worked out with the team this week.

Armstrong is 29 and stands 5-11 and weighs 183lbs. Has played in the Arena League. Spent the 2010-11 NFL seasons with Washington where he caught 51 passes for 974 yds at an average of 19.1 yards per catch and scored 5 tds. He started this season with the Dolphins before being released and being signed by Jacksonville. Who quickly released him.

Dez Bryant: I want Tony Romo's total trust

November, 29, 2012 Nov 29

PM CT

By Tim MacMahon | ESPNDallas.com

IRVING, Texas – Dez Bryant considers it his job to earn Tony Romo’s trust.

PODCASTJean-Jacques Taylor and Tim MacMahon joins Ben and Skin for another ESPN Dallas think tank where they discuss the Cowboys' playoff hopes, the Rangers hot stove and the Mavs.

Listen
listen.png
With trust, the numbers take care of themselves for a receiver with Bryant’s talent.

That’s what has happened during Bryant’s breakout performances the last few weeks. Bryant has 23 catches for 377 yards and four touchdowns in the Cowboys’ last three games.

“I feel like I earned a lot of trust,” Bryant said Thursday. “I’ve just got to continue to keep doing it. I want it all. I want him to trust me on everything: ‘Hey, I know I can trust my guy. If he says he’s going to be there, if I want him there, he’s going to be there.’ That’s the kind of guy I want to be to Romo.”

There have not been any obvious miscommunications between Romo and his No. 1 receiver -- you don’t really want to make a case for Miles Austin, right? -- in the last few weeks.

That, of course, has not always been the case. A busted assignment by Bryant against the Bears and a sloppy route against the Giants led to interceptions, but Romo said the third-year receiver had been making steady progress that paid off big the last few games.

“Each year he’s making less and less mistakes,” Romo said. “Really every month that goes by, it’s less and less. He’s done a good job of locking in and focusing in practice. He’s always worked hard.

“As a student of the game, as that continues to get better for him, he’s just going to continue to get better and better.”

The key for Bryant, who leads the Cowboys with 880 receiving yards and six touchdowns, is to keep building on his recent success. The taste of his potential has just whet his appetite.

“Just keep doing the same things and add on top of it,” said Bryant, who has caught 23 of the 31 passes thrown to him the last three games. “Be more aggressive, be more focused. There’s always room to get better at everything. Especially whenever you want something, you’ve got to go out and get it.”

Bryant wants Romo’s trust. He’s earning more and more of it each game.

Miles Austin fails to meet expectations; contract an albatross on Cowboys

By Rainer Sabin / Reporter

IRVING — There was a time not too long ago when Miles Austin was praised as an overachiever. A once undervalued prospect from a small New Jersey university, Austin had swiftly risen from undrafted rookie to Pro Bowl receiver. His story was inspirational and celebrated universally.
But these days Austin is no longer regarded the same way. Even as he is on pace to compile more than 1,000 receiving yards this season, he’s seen by many as an injury-prone talent who has failed to meet expectations.
The perception of Austin began to change soon after the Cowboys gave him a six-year, $54 million contract extension in September 2010. At that time, Austin was a player in full bloom. The season before, he burst on the scene with a performance for the ages.
In an overtime victory against Kansas City, he made 10 catches for 250 yards and two touchdowns — one of which was the game-winner.
Dismissing fears he was a flash in the pan, Austin sustained his productivity, finishing the season with 81 receptions for 1,320 yards and 11 touchdowns. Austin’s streak of success resulted in a Pro Bowl invitation and persuaded the Cowboys’ team of executives to forge a long-term relationship with the receiver.
By making a significant investment in Austin, the Cowboys hoped they would be richly rewarded. But the large contract they gave him is now seen as an albatross dangling from their necks.
Although Austin made the Pro Bowl again in 2010, he has offered diminished returns since. In 2011, when he missed six games because of hamstring injuries, the seven-year veteran collected only 43 receptions for 579 yards and seven touchdowns. This season, tight end Jason Witten and the mercurial Dez Bryant, who has emerged as the team’s No. 1 wideout, have caught more passes than Austin.
The facts are sobering.
But so is the price the Cowboys paid for their decision to give Austin $17 million in base salary two years ago as part of the extended deal.
That accounting move, designed to exploit the absence of fiscal restraints in the uncapped year of 2010, “created an unacceptable risk to future competitive balance,” the NFL wrote in a statement last March. So the league decided to strip the Cowboys of $10 million in salary-cap space, the sum of which will be split evenly over the next two seasons.
The penalty reduced the Cowboys’ financial flexibility, a damaging outcome for an organization that is still trying to rebuild parts of its roster. With Austin failing to produce at the rate he had in 2009, the cost appears that much more harmful.
This season, Austin has accounted for only 21 percent of the team’s receiving yards as he has struggled to remain in top condition since the summer. Another hamstring injury he suffered in August caused him to miss most of training camp and has nagged him for much of this season.
“Once injuries creep in, there are things that you can’t really control sometimes, but sometimes you can,” Austin said in August before the injury.
Austin was requested for an interview this week but was not available.
“Miles hasn’t been completely healthy for most of this year,” coach Jason Garrett said. “I think he was getting healthier and healthier until the other day.”
The other day, of course, was Thanksgiving, when a strained right hip forced Austin to miss the final three quarters of the Cowboys’ 38-31 loss to Washington.
With Austin out, the Cowboys were forced to rely on two inexperienced replacements, Dwayne Harris and Cole Beasley. Together, they were targeted 20 times by quarterback Tony Romo. The absence of Austin, who returned to practice this week, highlighted the lack of depth in the receiving corps and revealed the risk involved with depending so heavily on a brittle player.
“I think it’s not easy to go 16 games without being banged-up,” Romo said. “I can promise you there’s a lot of guys who have played through a lot of stuff. And Miles, having hurt himself last week, he’s got to play through a little bit of pain. And that’s part of his greatness is his ability to come out and still play at a good level.”
But the Cowboys didn’t pay Austin to be merely good. They gave him a hefty contract extension because they expected him to be great. Since the end of 2010, he hasn’t been. And with Austin set to cost the Cowboys $8.3 million against the cap next year, management will have to decide whether he is still worth the investment.
A player once deemed as undervalued may now be overpriced. Money changes everything, including the perception of Miles Austin.

Ben Bass to IR and sign DB Sterling Moore

The Cowboys are expected to place injured DE Ben Bass on injured reserve. He is suffering from an ankle injury. They will sign DB Sterling Moore to take his spot on the 53 men roster.

i

Moore is 22 years old and is 5-11 and weighs 195lbs.

He was rookie free agent signed by Oakland in 2011 and placed on their practise squad. They released him and he was picked up by New England in Novemeber that year. He was released and re-signed by the Patriots and placed on their practise squad before being promoted to the active roster in December.

In October of this year the Patriots waived him and he ended up on their practise squad. Where he stayed until the Cowboys signed him.

Moore played in 14 games for the Patriots. Recorded 20 tackles and 2 intercepts.

Andy Reid as next head coach of the Cowboys?

With two struggling teams, the Cowboys and Eagles, squaring off, let the coaching speculation ensue.

We already know about Sean Payton and Mike Holmgren, but how about this one: Andy Reid ... to the Cowboys?

Mark Eckel of The Trenton Times reports, citing, what he calls an "extremely reliable" anonymous source, who is close to Reid, that the long-time Eagles head coach could be the head coach of the archrival Cowboys next year.

Eckel writes:

Of course, that is all based on Reid being fired by the Eagles, which is expected, and Jason Garrett being let go by the Cowboys, which isn’t quite as sure, but certainly could happen if Dallas does not make the playoffs.

“I know a lot of people think Andy is going to San Diego next year, and I can see that happening,” the source said. “But I keep hearing Dallas. I think he can end up with the Cowboys. As a matter of fact, I think he will end up with the Cowboys, if Jason is fired.

“I think Andy would be a good fit with the Cowboys, I feel he would get along fine with (Cowboys owner) Jerry (Jones). It would be the two of them working together, no middle man to get in the way.”

I am glad you said mild rumours.:D:D

Most people think that Reid and Philadelphia will part company.

The bigger question is will Jerry Jones say goodbye to Jason Garrett. Right now I am not so sure thats going to happen. A lot will depend on how the team finishes the season. Right now the players have not given up on the coach. For me that has to be a good sign.

Now if the Cowboys did sack Garrett then you would have to assume that (a free) Reid would come under consideration. But I am not overly keen on signing a head coach who have spent a long time at another team. Reid has spent 14 years with the Eagles and yes he has had success. But I do wonder if he passed his used by date.

If I was looking to get a current head coach to replace Garrett then Sean Payton would be the one.
