DeMarcus Ware to play his 127th consecutive game

Not sure what the record is for consecutive games by a linebacker, but this weekend when the Cowboys play the Saints it will be Wares 127th consecutive game. Not bad for a linebacker, no matter how you look at it.

While 2012 has not been one of Wares best he still leads the Cowboys with 11.5 sacks. While he hasn't obviously missed a game this season injuries have been a big factor in his performance.

Thankfully for the Cowboys our other outside linebacker Anthony Spencer has really stepped up. He presently has 10 sacks.

Tony Romo has more success throwing to the left side of the field

Some interesting stats for Tony Romo. He has been much more successful this season throwing the ball to the left side of the field then either the middle or the right side.

Left 107-156 (68.6% comp) 1204 yds, 8td, 2 int & 103.2 rating
Middle 133-204 (65.2) 1609 yds, 7 td, 9 int & 82.3 rating
Right 109-166 (65.7) 1115 yds, 5 td, 5 int & 82.3 rating

It could help that WR Dez Bryant has played a lot on the left side. Bryant has been targeted 109 times by Romo with 54.1 percent on the left side, 17.4 in the middle and 28.4 on the right.

Romo has a 119.7 QB rating when targeting Bryant.

So it appears that Romo and Bryant have formed quite a good combination.

Cowboys sign OL from the Practise Squad and release WR

The Cowboys have released WR Anthony Armstrong and signed OL Ron Leary to take his roster place.

The Cowboys are high on Leary and with a few other teams showing interest in him the team signed him to the 53-man roster.

Leary was a high priority rookie free agent signing for the team. Many draft experts thought he may go in the later rounds of the draft. When he didn't the Cowboys were quick to sign him. While he has spent till now his time with the team on the practise squad the team has a high opinion of him.

How the Cowboys can make the playoffs

After their loss to the Saints Sunday afternoon, the Dallas Cowboys no longer control their playoff destiny (for now), but the playoffs are definitely still within reach.

Here's what needs to happen:

The Cowboys MUST beat the Washington Redskins on the road in Week 17. If this doesn't happen, the Cowboys are eliminated from playoff contention.

Along with beating the Redskins, the Cowboys also need help from at least one of the New York Giants' final two opponents. The Giants either need to lose Sunday to the Baltimore Ravens or in Week 17 to the Philadelphia Eagles.

If the Cowboys win next week and the Giants lose one of their final two games, the Cowboys will win a share of the NFC East title and advance to the playoffs due to tiebreakers
http://www.dallasnews.com/sports/da...allas-cowboys-can-still-make-the-playoffs.ece

With the Giants losing today that has solved one part of the puzzle. All we need now is for the Cowboys to beat the Redskins.

A look at the snaps played by Cowboys’ defenders in the team’s 34-31 overtime loss to the New Orleans Saints, while analyzing what it means:

S Gerald Sensabaugh: 95 of 95
CB Brandon Carr: 95 of 95
OLB Anthony Spencer: 94 of 95
CB Morris Claiborne: 93 of 95
DE Jason Hatcher: 72 of 95
ILB Dan Connor: 65 of 95
OLB DeMarcus Ware: 59 of 95
DE Marcus Spears: 56 of 95
S Eric Frampton: 51 of 95
DL Sean Lissemore: 47 of 95
CB Charlie Peprah: 44 of 95
ILB Alex Albright: 43 of 95
CB Mike Jenkins: 42 of 95
DE Tyrone Crawford: 41 of 95
OLB Victor Butler: 40 of 95
CB Sterling Moore: 28 of 95
LB Brady Poppinga: 25 of 95
DE Brian Schaefering: 19 of 95
LB Ernie Sims: 19 of 95
CB Michael Coe: 16 of 95
S Danny McCray: 1 of 95

Taylor's Takes: Defensive coordinator Rob Ryan benched Danny McCray, who has struggled for several weeks, and Eric Frampton replaced him in the starting lineup. McCray, fighting through several injuries, played primarily on special teams, which is what he does best. ... Dan Connor did yeoman work at inside linebacker and recorded a season-high 12 tackles. ... DeMarcus Ware, playing with a shoulder strain and a hyperextended elbow, missed a chunk of the second half after aggravating the injury. Victor Butler played more snaps than he had in any game since Week 4 against Chicago.

http://espn.go.com/dallas/nfl/story/_/id/8803148/jerry-jones-dallas-cowboys-vows-changes-coming

Sounding frustrated, angry and perhaps flustered, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said on his weekly radio show that things will become uncomfortable at Valley Ranch and said changes are coming to his team.

In cutting off a question from one of the hosts during his segment on KRLD-FM on Wednesday morning, Jones said, "I can assure our fans this, that it's going to be very uncomfortable from my standpoint, it's going to be very uncomfortable for the next few weeks and months at Valley Ranch."

With one playoff win since 1996, Jones said he will have to do something "almost unconventional" to break the franchise out of its down cycle.

"But how do we somehow create us an opportunity to kind of break out of this cycle -- drive across the water, if you will?" Jones said. "That's the challenge that I have right now."

There will be changes going forward, either in coaches, personnel or scheme.

"I can tell you change is necessary at 8-8," Jones said, later adding, "Change is in order when you spend the two seasons in a row down to the last two games and lose them, so we're going to have to have changes."
“ I can tell you change is necessary at 8-8. Change is in order when you spend the two seasons in a row down to the last two games and lose them, so we're going to have to have changes.
” -- Jerry Jones
While offering support for coach Jason Garrett, the team owner refused to answer questions regarding defensive coordinator Rob Ryan's status and whether Garrett will remain the offensive playcaller in 2013.

Jones, who has always said he would remain the team's general manager as long as he wanted, would not discuss any possibilities because he has yet to meet with the coaches since Sunday's loss. He said he will seek advice from people outside the organization to help with the evaluation.

The Cowboys finished the season with a 28-18 loss to the Washington Redskins, who advanced to the playoffs. The defeat pushed the Cowboys' record to 8-8 for the second consecutive season. Jones' franchise hasn't reached the postseason the past three seasons, and for the third time in the past five seasons, the Cowboys failed to reach the playoffs because they couldn't win a regular-season finale.

Jones lauded the risk Washington took in moving up to get quarterback Robert Griffin III in the draft and Denver took in signing Peyton Manning, who was coming off a serious neck injury and did not play in 2011 for Indianapolis, but he is not ready to part with Tony Romo.

"This isn't the year and I'm not ready to take the kinds of risk that [Washington and Denver took]," Jones said. "What we need to do is Tony is a tremendous asset and he's an asset that's going to be with the Dallas Cowboys for, as far as I'm concerned, a long time."

Jones wouldn't discuss a potential contract extension with Romo, who enters the 2013 season in the final year of his deal.

It seems as though Jerry is keen for some changes, may be many changes to happen. You can have no doubt that he is not close to being partly happy with this season.

I think Jason Garrett is safe for at least one more year. Where Garrett may suffer is having the role of offensive coordinator removed. Not sure he will be happy with that, but he may not have a choice in the matter. Norv Turners name has been thrown around as a possible OC.

In my opinion Ron Ryans position as defensive coordinator is in real danger. I and many others have been disappointed with him and that includes Jerry. What may save Ryan is, in his first season DC we had the players strike which ruined the teams training camp and during this his second season injuries took a real toll on the defensive players. If he is around next season then it will be his last chance.

Ron Ryan gone, does that mean a return to a 4-3 defense

Ron Ryan's release is not a surprise.

The question to be asked will it mean a return to a 4-3 def. Some names being thrown around as possible DC in a 4-3 def are Dave Wannstedt and Lovie Smith.
