Campbell was charged for grade three contarary conduct, AFTER fulltime in the premier league game v the Bears, at EAS last Sat Night. the charge is for abusing the referee. The Knights will contest the severity of the charge tommorow night at the NSW rugby league judiciary.

That is quite strange. They should have awarded the Bears a penalty in front of the posts.

I saw the incident and it happened after the ref blew fulltime. Campbell appeared to be disputing something that happened just prior to fulltime, I think when there was a turnover of possesion (can't quite remember the details) I do recall thinking that the Knights had been hard done by though. I saw the ref point to the sideline and did mention it in the Knights forum the next day. I'd forgotten about it until today when I read that the club would be disputing the severity in the local paper. I would say it is his first appearance before the judiciary, he always comes across as a pretty reasonable, and clean player on the park. Being Captain of the premier league side I would think he would be within his rights to discuss any rulings with the ref. I doubt he would get a suspension either way. (do they have early pleas in the NSW system?

i had a player that threatened to bash me in the carpark, he copped a 26 week suspension. there's disputing decisions and then there is just outright abuse.

I'm not a Knights fan but Dane Campbell would be the last bloke I'd imagine going too far in questioning a ref without reason and being mindful of restraint.

I was watching the game - it was 28 all with seconds remaining and the ref killed the finish by stopping the play several times.
Dane apparently said something to him after the final whistle.
I can't see it being too bad.

He didn't threaten to bash him however. It was no worse than what would happen on the field, looks as if it just spilled over fulltime.

If it was a threat of any kind it would be a different story.

From what I've read on it, and saw, Mr Campbell commented on the ref's performance after the game on the way back to the shed, however it wasn't even directly at the ref. The ref in question however took offence over-hearing the comment.
