Sad but true.I'm ashamed to say this, but Finchy is a better option to a team at 6 than Morts.

Not really. If you put in 8 to 10 kicks a game, and pass the ball 20 times a game, then chances eventually some of those will lead to tries.
The skillset is being able to do it consistently, ie. every match rather than every 5 where chances are you've fluked it.
he's certainly worth percevering given that he's still only 22 but he definitely needs some time in reserve grade and maybe we should start tinkering with his positional play as maybe a benchy because he's never going to be an out and out half.
If he's going to make it at all it will be as a halfback. Teams can't afford to have more than one bloke his size in the defensive line.
As long as we've got Sandow at the club Mortimer will be no more than a backup here. If he wants to sign a backup's contract at the end of next year I'm sure we'd oblige but otherwise he'll probably have to go elsewhere (also on a backup's contract).
Well, now that worry is over and there's been an article about his game, hopefully he'll be officially named for Wenty this Tuesday...there are some idiots out there that think he should of been named on tuesday for the wenty, if he was there would of been half a dozen journos and cameras bombarding a suburban park straight after the game as it was 1 journo and a photographer were there and the journo had the presence of mind to walk on the park after the game 30 metres from the fence to smother him for an interview.
i think 14 is his best position and it always was, if he can turn out anything like PJ than it can only be a positive thing, he's never ever started off the bench in first grade and i would be intrigued to see what he can do the 50th to 60 minute mark..i know Mitch is clearly more effective coming off the bench than he is starting.
Stagger, I would agree with trying Morts at 14 except that he just doesn't have the speed to excel in that position. On a few occasions this season Morts has found himself in space, but did not have the pace to go on with it.
Ideally your No. 14 brings some x-factor or explosiveness. PJ Marsh had it, sadly I just don't think Morts does.

another thing about Mortz, he predominantly plays left half, thus passing right to left. If he was hooker, can he pass left to right?
No.
He can't kick either. Nor can he visualise a play or set up a support, or make a break through pure speed, or kick 40/20's, nor does he know how to setup a support after being put through a gap.
But boy oh boy, he does a great tabloid interview.
Suity
So if he can't play 9, and therefore can't play 14... and if he's currently 3rd in line for a spot in our halves... and if we've bought two players for 2012 to also play 6 and 7... then surely we need to be shopping Mortimer around to other clubs or England, rather than paying him $250K pa to learn his trade at Wenty for the next two seasons?
Surely...?
Or can we just give him the job Brett Kenny wanted in our Marketing Department, and be done with it!
Nope, we should be shopping him around. Failing that, if nothing else, he plays at Wenty and is an expensive back up for a season.
