There's no stroll in the park for dumped Mortimer

AXED Parramatta five-eighth Daniel Mortimer had a mixed afternoon in the NSW Cup yesterday.
Playing for Wentworthville in their win against Auckland, Mortimer played halfback in front of 100 people at Ringrose Park in western Sydney.
It was about as far as you can get from the 2009 grand final.
Much like his NRL form, Mortimer was hot and cold.
He had a hand in the Magpies' third try to Mark Hendy, but it was more a bullocking run from the right winger than a silky touch from Mortimer that sent Wentworthville to an 18-0 lead.
The diminutive playmaker then single-handedly orchestrated the Magpies' fourth try, taking the line on from 10m out and splitting the defence before sending lock Mitch Stanfield over.
The celebrations were short-lived when Auckland five-eighth Shaun Johnson ran over Mortimer three minutes later to reduce Wentworthville's lead to 24-12.
"If the boys keep playing like Monday night against the Sharks then I might be here for a while," Mortimer said.
"I'm just here hopefully to get my spark back and get a bit of confidence.
"I would love to be back up there in the very near future, but that's all yet to be seen."
Mortimer produced some quality touches and some errors in judgment, but no one can question his commitment to turn his career around with the Eels.
He produced a late one-on-one try-saver and some other copybook tackles on much bigger opponents as he strives to regain confidence.
But on an Eels contract worth $250,000 a season, is it enough to save Mortimer from being axed 12 months before his deal is due to expire?
With Chris Sandow and Ben Roberts signed for 2012, the pressure is clearly on.
