don't be surprised if u do get some panthers IMO Shane Rodney will be a liability he hasn't played a game in 2 seasons so if i was Canberra i wouldn't sign him Luke Rooney is on 300K a season at Penrith

Don't be surprised if you guys get Lewis but u can have Nate Smith back

Just saw a list of off contract players, not sure how accurate it was, but I think we should be trying to lure some of the following players.

Ben Hannant (too expensive, will be about 300K once this season is out)
Andrew Emileo
Tim Winitana
Gavin Cooper
Brad Meyers (I would have agreed before, but he is too crap)
David Vaealiki (too expensive, doesnt do much)
Ben Cross (alot of clubs will go after him)
Jacob Lillyman (doing nothing)
Chad Robinson (agree)
Shane Rodney (crap)
Luke Rooney (crap)
Sam Perrett (we need some bigger centres imo)
Amos Roberts (expensive)
David Shillington (agreed)
Wairangi Koopu (will stay in NZ or go to ESL)

Some aren't great but they may be bargain buys. Also said that Costigan has to play at least 12 games this year to activate his option, that is no forgone conclusion. I love Lillyman though, I'd rather him than Nev.

I had a look through the same list & came up with my list

Kane Cleal - Bulldogs will more than likely retain him, but it will be a big contract upgrade
Cameron Phelps - Will be fairly cheap and an achievable signing
Josh Graham - Same as Phelps, real good player just not kicking on at Titans
Steve Southern - Will definately leave NQ, seems down on form and on the outer at his club. Which means he has Raiders written all over him
Chad Robinson - Will take some $$$ but would be worth a punt
Kirk Reynoldson - Form has been great in 08, Raiders should go for him
Dave Shillington - We need a big mean bastard forward, ever since Tyron left we look like kittens

Not sure if Kevvy would want to come back to live in Canberra ... didnt have much good to say about the place when he left to the Broncs .. "dull, boring, cold" I think were his words ... that can be solved with a big warm coaches jacket and letting him out on the town with TC

I see Craig Frawley's off contract in Brisbane. He could be a star player for us.

Furner offered Canberra job

April 01, 2008
FORMER Australia back-rower David Furner is set to become the Canberra Raiders coach from 2009.
While Furner was yet to sign on the dotted line, his father and Raiders chief executive Don Furner has offered him a three-year deal to take over from Neil Henry, who will leave Canberra a year ahead of his present contract ending.
Henry said he was in discussions with both North Queensland and Brisbane about taking the coach's role with one of those clubs next year.
Furner said it was "a dream come true" to be offered the top job. He is still the club's leading pointscorer with 1218 points in the lime green.
After a stint in the English Super League, Furner returned to the nation's capital where he was installed as assistant coach in 2006.

Furner set to coach Raiders from 2009

Former Test back rower David Furner is set to become the Canberra NRL coach from 2009.
While Furner was yet to sign on the dotted line, his brother and Raiders chief executive Don Furner has offered him a three-year deal to take over from Neil Henry, who will leave Canberra a year ahead of his present contract ending.
Henry said on Tuesday he was in discussions with both the North Queensland Cowboys and Brisbane Broncos about taking the coach's role with one of those clubs next year.
Furner said it was "a dream come true" to be offered the top job.
The former Kangaroo had a stellar playing career with the Raiders, playing 200 top-grade games.

Look my critism at daves appointment is soley on the length of contract
3 years for what is an untried and untest coach? the rest of this year and next would have sufficed
3 years from next year onwards?
if he isnt up to scratch we'll have missed our window for a premiership.
I love dave, and im going to give him a clean slate but i think this is a very risky move... too risky infact...
but as said at least he is loyal, if he turns out good, you know he wont be pissing off elsewhere asap. Unlike some spineless lying pricks

Furner should be promoted immediatley, henry demoted

Based on form only if we continue with more win than loss ratio offer 3 years if not then offer him to be reviewed in selection process for new head coach,

Being accountable is my only concern, and obviously Mcintyre and Don Furner Jr need to communicate more in-depth and the board no everything, How can they judge performance of CEO otherwise

3 years is what Henry was signed up for when he was an untried and untested coach, maybe what we need is a mutual get out clause if it isn't working

Yes Don jr is the silly twat who allowed the clause but a clause is only as bad as the spineless prick who wants to use it. Im actually glad the clause was in his contract, I would hate to have kept someone who did not want to be there doing a half ass job.

Furner set to coach Raiders from 2009

April 1, 2008 - 3:55PM

He is still the club's leading pointscorer with 1218 points in the lime green.
After a stint in the English Super League, Furner returned to the nation's capital where he was installed as assistant coach in 2006.
"Probably Friday last I sat back here with him (Henry) and had a chat to him late in the night, that was probably the D Day," Don Furner told reporters.
He refused to go into the details of Henry's contract.
"We decided that we wouldn't stand in his way.
"I'm sure that Neil will leave this place in a lot better shape than when he came."
Henry spoke at length to reporters, saying the decision to leave Canberra had not been easy.
"Coaches are normally trying to hold on to their job in places," Henry said.
"I was sort of in the position where a couple of clubs were interested in me but I was still contracted and that was difficult."

For the younger Furner sibling the moment has come.
"Like anything, even with the playing days, you prepare yourself as best you can physically and mentally and I see this in the same situation."
Furner said he would be working closely with Henry through the rest of the season.
"The remainder of the year I'll be working real close to Neil.
"He's (got) a fantastic work ethic and there's a lot of stuff that I'll be taking from him.
"It's been a very good opportunity."

Last Friday, Sunday Dog is on radio, Monday Chairman is quoted in papers all denying it.

FMD

BTW the dog better get out of the road early and let Furner coach.

I dont think I need to point out anymore that this club is run by a bunch of amateur fools who are more concerned with their own lot than that of the club.

You guys can make your own judgement but heck you'd need something more than "I have confidence in them, they've made some great decisions since sakcing Elliott"

im going to back this decision by management pending results, i never really liked henry's team selections...i agree that we have seen some doozies in the past but this one is growing on me..

ps prefer ....stick or bellyache......but hey i was and always will be a massive Fan of Fists of Fury Furner.

like i said earlier.....f**k the traitor off now and unleash the beast.
