●SECRET loans to clubs including St George Illawarra and the West Tigers with no transparency or details of the terms;
Would the clubs like to have their dirty laundry open for other clubs as well? I would like to see more transparency in club operations, but I doubt the clubs would.
● LACK of communication with stakeholders;
I would agree - especially with the key stakeholder.. Fans. Clubs get to change the rules every year, and everything is run by Channel 9 first.
● THE dearth of rugby league experience in senior management roles and consultancy firms employed in increasing numbers;
Rugby League Experience is not needed in senior administrative roles. It's a business, not a local sport. Rugby League experience is vital in liaison roles.
● NEW corporate governance pressure on already successful clubs, telling long-time officials how to run their business;
Is there any detail of what this pressure involves? If it's a 'one-model-fits-all' approach, then yes, it is ridiculous. However, if it it new reporting procedures or simply involves every club undergoing a governance review - there shouldn't be whinging.
● THE embarrassingly slow process to produce a 2015 premiership draw and address other significant *issues, including the recent domestic violence case;
The draw should have been prepared and released by now. Unfortunately, I think a lot of it is due to the external forces that affect it's composition (Channel 9 and fox). As for their approach to domestic violence, it's getting better IMO.
● PLAYER burnout and lack of compensation to clubs for rep footy injuries;
This has been an issue well and truly before the current commission. Rep injuries happen. It's bad, but it's life. As for player burnout, the clubs need to figure out what they want - more money and status quo, or less money and less games. Other sports have much more demanding scheduling than rugby league.
● THE integrity unit’s inconsistency; and
A key issue to be raised - but hardly something you over throw management of the game for atm.
● SPENDING $750,000 on a feasibility study to rebuild Allianz Stadium, which is home to only one club while others are left with poor facilities.
Given that the government is likely to focus money into Allianz, ANZ, and a western sydney stadium, it seems illogical to spend money on feasibility studies on the suburban grounds.
