I think if you look into it you will find that RU is more prevalent elsewhere because of the bigoted attitude that exists in places all over the world. RL has little in the way of support in the upper echelons of the business and establishment world. This is mainly due to lack of access to the private school system.

You reply with 'this is in the past' but it has had a pronounced effect on rugby league in Australia. I have played both rugby codes and rugby league by far is the more enjoyable code. The fact that RL doesn't get decent access to the private schools is one of the main reasons why the code fumbles and struggles for existence and acceptance on a worldwide sphere.

Their is a logic to the bigotry of these RU biased institutions and it is based on repressing a far more advanced code of rugby(RL) to propagate the antiquated version of rugby that is RU. It follows through if you look at the many ways RU bias, in the form of government agencies and private schools, act against the sport of RL. For example: You don't hear of government agencies banning RU teams wishing to play end of season tour matches in countries like Morocco or Lebanon? It's very real and RU do their best to label this conversation a "conspiracy theory" but this is more than just a conspiracy, this bigotry toward RL is reality! It's a massive attack on the game at the moment and its very important that RL realize this and make the right proactive moves to combat the onslaught. As these codes are intent on destabilizing and weakening RL and have the arsenal to do so as they have establishment backing courtesy of the "friends in high places" that they use.
BTW when the French government ousted RL back in 1941 , courtesy of RU lobbying, the code of soccer was the one of the few that voted against the ousting. I see soccer as a genuine friend of rugby league. The others are not!

I probably agree with most of what you have said. I believe and many others would believe it is all true. The point is, it's in the past. Why worry about it now.
Look, no matter what happens, our code needs to entertain. And a oversaturated market wont help our code.
It just makes for more and more product worldwide which can become over-kill.

I myself are very happy with rugby leagues contests, internationals world-cup, origin and i like the nines idea and the world club challenge.
These events have our best players involved.
What i want to see is the NRL move the Titans to Logan, bring in another Brisbane team like the Brothers club for Ipswich, and another team for NZ, i would like another Auckland team, but they will probably settle for Wellington, and one day i would like another Melbourne team and Perth.

That is hard to achieve, some expansion areas wont be happy. That is why i think we need to adopt a similar model to superleagues new system.
It is a fantastic idea and keeps every club (and expansion area) happy.

Anyhow, no need to rush, the NRL is fantastic at the moment. Only the Titans need sorting out, and soon. Sticking with the Titans on the coast is just putting the code backwards. Bite the bullit and move them to Logan. Play out of Suncorp and turn Brisbane into a full-on rugby league city, where you can go and see a game any weekend, on the saturday or the sunday, not just every second friday night as it is now with the Broncos. ?

Our code needs to become smarter, and turn our two major cities into league cities. Sydney is, Brisbane is not. It is why the Reds and roar have found it easy to gain traction.

You will find that half of Brisbane dislike the Broncos. I believe that a 2nd Brisbane team based from the northern half of the city-perhaps Redcliffe Dolphins backed "Brisbane Dolphins" would be a great fit. The only reason why Brisbane has no 2nd team is due to the Broncos greedily trying to maintain their monopoly of the city.

Australia's holiday capital and 6th largest city, the Gold Coast should have an NRL team. The AFL know its very important and strategically that is why RL have a team on the Gold Coast.

Millions of tourists both from overseas and around Australia frequent the place and if you only have the one top flight football code existing in the area then what type of message does that send to the millions that visit the place. A free kick to the AFL!

Its complicated mate and I know you mean well but it needs to be strategically done or else our code will give ground to other codes biting at its heels. More teams are answer for the NRL but it needs to be done strategically with marketing acumen.

bad news for Slothfield http://www.nrl.com/arlc-commissioners-re-elected-/tabid/10874/newsid/83769/default.aspx

ARLC Commissioners re-elected

11:34am Tue 10th February, 2015

John Grant, Catherine Harris and Jeremy Sutcliffe have been re-elected as Commissioners of the ARL Commission.

Mr Grant said he was delighted to be re-elected to the Commission and excited to be able to be part of the next stage of rugby league’s development in Australia and internationally.

Mr Grant said the game had evolved both on and off the field since the Commission was formed three years ago.

“Sport and entertainment more broadly is undergoing significant change and the role of the Commission is to ensure the administration across all levels of Rugby League can meet the demands of being a modern professional sport in this competitive entertainment market,” he said.

“Our game is in good shape and has a healthy future and I look forward to continuing to work with all members of the Commission and others right across the game to make rugby league the strongest game it can be.”

Mr Grant expressed his delight also for the re-election of Catherine Harris and Jeremy Sutcliffe.

“Cathy and Jeremy have both made great contributions to the Commission in their first term and their decision to stand again and their subsequent election ensure their expertise and commitment continues to be applied for the good of the whole game,” he said.

The resignation and re-election of directors last Thursday was in accordance with the ARLC’s constitution which requires that directors stand down at the end of their term and, if they so wish, seek re-election to the Board.

I'm confused, I thought the 'push was on' for Peponis despite the ARLC Constitution?

Surely Rothfield didn't just make it up in an ignorant attempt to further an agenda?

It is only a free kick to the AFL if you believe that.
Look, the NRL has to start making the right choices, not worry about other faking codes. They will grow because of how dumb we have been in expansion and growth.

We need the Titans to be relocated to Logan, save our faking heartland, and we also need another team near Brisbane to use Suncorp as well.
Ipswich is the perfect choice.

The derbies will create interest, the game will grow, and Gold Coast can become a feeder area, they are a tourist city, they dont need a faking team.
Let the suns have the coast, nobody cares, just the white shoe faking brigade who are all victorians.

We need to be worrying about a faking 2 million market, Brisbane, and shoring this city up.
That is where the money is, for fakes sake, the Titans cant even get a sponsor on the coast, when is the penny going to d
This code needs to get smart, or we will be kicked and pistol whipped at every turn.

The best news is John Grant has been reappointed.
The code has done a lot of things right. Still a long way to go.

Your choice of expansion areas have a lot to be desired!(Logan?)

If you don't think southern QLD can accommodate at least three top flight NRL teams I think you are selling our great game short. Like I suggested get the Broncos to actually share half of Brisbane with a northern Brisbane based team(Redcliffe Dolphins for example-Brisbane Dolphins with both playing out of Suncorp stadium and still have the Gold Coast Titans.

The Titans have a good coach and some decent players and have relocated their HQ to a more visible part of the Gold Coast. This is positive. Strategically the Gold Coast is vital. Image is everything when you are trying to win the minds of youth over. Your scenario would quickly result in an even more dramatic slide of the games presence.

so you want to put 3 teams in a city of 2million to shore up the heartland and then leave another piece of heartland with over 1/2 million running from the gold coast to northern NSW with no NRL presence and the AFL investing tens of millions in it? One of your best Oikee lol.

re the reappointments, was this a closed election or did they have to run against any outside nominees?
