Rothfield and Hadley are not as influential as people are giving them credit for.

Look how hard the Tele pushed Superleague at the time. Still failed to convince anywhere near the majority of fans that it was anything but a grab for paytv content. And there was a lot of rhetoric and spin at the time. Every day.

Hadley gets big ratings on 2GB and Rothfield works for and writes for
the largest selling daily newspaper in Sydney.
And you tell me they do not have the influence on people who are casual rugby league fans or in fact non rugby league fans.
They are failing in their jobs if they don't have some influence.
News is supposed to inform,if you believe Rothfield is informative and not agenda driven you are deluded.
He can't even get it right on the matter of Suncorp,Gallop had zero influence. The stadium was in progress before he took office.

Super league was about splitting the comp and rationalising the game
,affecting a huge number of fans.A hell of a difference to daily venom against the likes of the NRL admin.
When you get former News journos such as Massouds stating there is an agenda, there is something in the wind.

Be interesting to see what Smith does with this contentious issue. Lot of money but the backlash to Waterhouse last year was huge.

Having just signed an audacious $40 million contract to clinch the rights to become the AFL's official betting partner, BetEasy boss Matthew Tripp is eyeing a similar arrangement with the NRL.

Rugby league has been without an official wagering partner since a mooted multimillion-dollar deal with online bookmaker Tom Waterhouse spectacularly unravelled last year.

The backlash against Waterhouse's saturation coverage on Nine Network's rugby league telecasts had an adverse effect on a potential deal.

However, given the passage of time and the huge boost to the rival code's coffers, the governing body might reconsider its position.

Think the major problem was Waterhouses 's mug appeared before, during and after the game.He was too in your face and a know it all,and his ads gave most people the sh*ts.He acted like a flipping league commentator.

if the new mob is far less intrusive ,has ads at the beginning and end,and is prepared to pay $10m pa,then I could handle that.
If all of that money went to grassroots ,then I wouldn't mind.

I would prefer gambling ads left out of NRL broadcasts TBH>

And you are suggesting what? That those journos have a shared agenda that they push?

No, not necessarily, perhaps they do they all work for the one paper, but I can't prove that. Though if they are writing the same type of articles that you agree are not true then I guess they have a very similar agenda or bias

What I am saying is that you stated that it was just one journo, when provided with proof that it was more than one and that others were writing bias articles you claimed that you never said they weren't writing them.

A list of names is proof of nothing. You even say so yourself. If someone had a list of articles suggesting rebellion that were written by those people then they could post it. As it stands Rothfield has had a couple of minor cracks at it. But thats it.

Really hope it doesn't soften the NRL's stance, in fact I hope the NRL and the parliamentary committees start lobbying to get all gambling advertising banned from sporting events.

The thing is their agenda is not to say that there is a rebellion, the agenda is to write negative stories that suggest that Smith and Grant are doing a horrible job. There may be only a couple of stories about the rebellion but there are many stating that they are doing a bad job of running the game.

If that's the case I'll leave you to it.

I'm reacting to a couple of articles posted here - and they are both by the one bloke. I'm not going to start buying the DT or reading the NRL articles on News Ltd sites to find out if others are writing the same crap.

Most of the other whining I pick up here at LU is about articles about player behaviour & the victim mentality that the NRL is being picked on while other sports get some sort of free ride. If journos are spending the same time writing about administration then I'm not missing a thing. I am surprised that so many writers covering the same issues the same way sells papers. And all about NRL administration. Go figure.

If you don't think the nrl cops a much harder time for the same off field issues other sports have you're living in a fantasy land. The reason nrl fans have a victim mentality as you put it is because we have been told our sport is dying for various reasons and being taken over by 3 other sports for over a decade now. And I blame the media, especially news limited who are a cancer to rugby league.

NRL is the most popular sport by far. I'd expect much more scrutiny in NSW & QLD. If you expect other minor sports to get the same level of scrutiny you are living in lala land.]

The popularity of the code is reflected in the media. In the NRL season - it's all NRL.

Why would you want this to change?

Lol,this. NRL scandal barely gets a mention in the West australian but afl scandal is front and back page for weeks. Of course the papers in sydney report on the NRL more, good and bad, doh!
