Really hope it doesn't soften the NRL's stance, in fact I hope the NRL and the parliamentary committees start lobbying to get all gambling advertising banned from sporting events.

Agree 110% with you.
Gambling is a faking huge problem in this country, and Victoria is leading by bad example to every other state really.
They not only promote horse racing to kids, they also dump pokie clubs right into league heartlands, where the gamblers of this country are most vulnerable.

The NRL should be hitting the government hard to have not only gambling companies forced back, but also the AFL from plonking huge faking pokie clubs into league heartlands, just so they can syphon the poor areas and send the cash back to Victoria.
It really stinks.

The Bad News Bears have a massive pokie den out in Logan, far, far away from the Gabba, their HQ, training base, junior setups etc, but right in the middle of one of the poorest/most disadvantaged areas of SEQ.

They only survive off government handouts and the $$$ made by Vic AFL clubs, so for them to be making money that way is pretty disgusting.

That is the most disgusting club i have ever seen.
The whole Queensland public and the government should rally and have that pokie club shut down.

It is a draconian Victorian rort and set-up to leach off the poor.

Ah so apparently the majority of rugby league fans live in western Sydney according to the welsh banker.

Well they certainly will in another generation or so when the game in the bush is dead and buried and expansion areas give up.

This is what happens when you centralise the admin in Sydney, fill a supposedly national comp with sydney sides, confuse the nrl with rugby league as a whole and bring in foreigners from other sports or fields who have no clue about the game's true homelands. Their whole view is completely skewed into this ridiculous sydney-centric stupor.

Even Panthers general manager Phil Gould, a man with more sway and clout than any other official in the game, has become disenchanted with the game’s direction.

JANUARY 16, 2015
As Gould and coach Ivan Cleary continue to rebuild the once besieged club, Penrith’s general manager of football has paid tribute to Dave Smith and the independent commission’s involvement during the process.

Since taking over the NRL’s top job from David Gallop in 2013, Smith has come under severe scrutiny.

A number of the game’s most powerful figures are reportedly losing faith in the chief executive but Gould said the club’s relationship with the boss “couldn’t be better.”

“I can only speak from our involvement with him,” Gould said.

“Dave Smith and the commission have been extremely supportive of the Panthers and everything that we’ve done. Right from day one when the commission had their first ever board meeting I invited them to Panthers to discuss our business plans and models going forward and that relationship has continued to this day.

“The communication between us and the commission and us and Dave Smith has been a part of the rebuilding of this club. We’re very much supportive of the strategic plan of the game and the commission and Dave Smith.”

DOCTOR CALLED FOR AILING COMMISSION

THE push is on for Bulldogs legend George Peponis to join the independent commission as chairman to replace John Grant, who is offside with the clubs. Dr Peponis would be forced to stand down from his role as chairman of the Canterbury League Club and the NSW Rugby League.

Flat out lie or complete ignorance for how the ARLC operates, commissioners are appointed by the commission, not the clubs, Grant will be easily re-elected chairman for as long as he wants it. The NSWRL board of self-interested dinosaurs clambering for any semblance of power and relevancy is the very reason for why the ARLC exists to begin with.

Rothfield is also obviously in the pocket of ANZ Stadium judging by the way he has been campaigning for their redevelopment over other venues.

Not only that. The INDEPENDENT commissioners need to have been away from the game (at least at a first grade level) for the previous 3 years.

So a sitting chairmen moving straight onto the commission aint gonna happen....

The maintenance of the Sydney clubs should not be an issue! They are an integral part of RLs strength in Australia's biggest city. Try to put your logic to the Aust Rules brainwashed city of Melbourne where a million less people reside and they have ten top flight clubs not the nine that exist in Sydney. I don't think some people understand that the 70s and 80s where pivotal in RL expansion and popularity growth. These very identifiable clubs and jumpers remain in the memories of millions of people around Australia. They are the advantage rugby league has over other football codes trying to cash in on its market.

I still believe that genuine expansion should see new clubs like: the Central Coast bears(consolidate eastern & Sydney market along with getting back lost Bears fans!) , a second Brisbane side(-representing the northern part of this city Brisbane Dolphins? with Broncos having the Southern half), Perth/WA Pirates-giving some time friendly live TV coverage options and take your pick for the other teams: 2nd Melbourne team?,Wellington Whales, Adelaide Dingoes. getting rid of or relocations are not genuine expansion. In fact what it does is piss off existing fans!

These new clubs will get our younger men playing RL football again instead of being enticed by weaker flimsy codes(Aust. Rules/RU) that do not offer the true test on the field that is rugby league.

Look, the honest truth is the NRL does not need another rebellion.
The last one put our code back 20 years, called superleague war if anyone has forgot.

I have done the survey's and studies. What i have worked out is that rugby league is sitting on peak membership growth to weekly crowds.
So in other words our crowds each week represent roughly what our membership numbers come to,. so new growth is now hard to come by.
We, "we as in Australia" are at saturation level for all codes. What that means is any new growth has to be earned, so won over.
This is why new events like All-stars, which is faultering, struggling to sell, the Auckland nines, which is booming, and the World club challenge are lessons for this code.
People can get bored very quickly in this modern age. You can over-entertain them as well, as shown by the Wellington sevens.
That does not mean these events are failures, they simply need to re-invent themselves, and fast.

Rugby league, "the NRL" are now in the hard yards 'rights for eyeballs' contest.

This is why we need the clubs to stop putting shite on our events. Talking them down is like talking yourself out of a job. because if these events fail, other codes are ready to pounce. .

We have soccer bringing huge international club games to Australia, we have America also trying their luck with their codes, we have rugby union milking every last dollar outta their faithful.

Rugby league has the product to sell, the superstars lining up, we need to be selling those talents, not allowing union to sell them, or we will become the kicking dog again.

If that bandana wearing dickhead thinks he can just put crap on our code at any opportunity again, we might as well hand the code over to union, so they can stomp it and kill it, because fighting between ourselves just gives other codes food for thought of sinking in the boot.
Eddie laughs his tits off at Bellamy and Slater and Smith and Cronk by-passing our massive events (nines) and then putting shite on them.

If the Storm dont want to be part of the Nines, get rid of them and Bring in Wigan. They would be a better promotion product anyhow.
These times now are the championship years, for how well your code is going to be looking for the future. We blow that and we can blame the clubs.

To be honest I still believe that the "Superleague" war was a well orchestrated plot to divide/weaken rugby league in Australia. I believe the "friends in high places" that have a bias toward RU(mostly private school educated-not their fault-they didn't have a choice) had conveniently decided to upset the juggernaut that was rugby league in the mid 1990s. The league was expanding well and looking to have a major grasp of Australia's sporting market. Suddenly a split based on innuendo and greed occurred which coincidently occurred during a "super-whatever it is- union" expansion. Rugby league was a good enough sport to combat this onslaught but it did some major damage. It split the sporting market and psyche of many sports fans! History will show that it was quite coincidental that these event s happened at virtually the same time? Looking at other examples of what rugby union people have orchestrated against rugby league in over 100 years , I believe this is a fair observation. It's not a conspiracy its a reality! Even now I just read an article showing that RL , despite being popular in a country like Kenya, doesn't get official funding whereas low and behold, rugby union does! Its very real fellas and it should known to the general public at large!

This well hidden worldwide bigotry against rugby league will continue but we can make more people aware of the struggle and this will ultimately lead to some sort of a positive regard for the sport of rugby league in the long run in the eyes of a genuine sports fan. Not the bigots!

That is all in the past. Rugby union is alot bigger than rugby league anyhow.
That does not mean our code cant keep growing now and becoming a smaller world cup version.
Sometimes smaller is better managed.
I quite like the fact we can attend our world cup, here in Australia cheaply.
And we dont have to compete as hard to win the rights.
That is our luxury. It wont last forever.
The bigger you grow the least likely your country is to hold power. Look at union. In the UK they care about their product, between them and France. even now most good union players from oz and nz are heading to France. ?
How does that help us here in Australia. ? We dont get to see those stars.
This is why the NRL needs to be the main game, the exotic code i call it.
Because Australia, PNG and NZ are exotic places to live and work for players, and the superleague is a great place for our players to try as well.
I think we should be growing a American comp. That will complete the triangle of 3 continents to play rugby league at top level. Which is enough.
