All I ask is that he is the best candidate available, not the most popular.
I do worry when theres talk that he's the favoured candidate and may be fast tracked into the role.
If you are filling a key role in an organisation, even if there is a strong candidate, its appropriate to follow through on the selection process as you need to bench mark the candidate against the field. It also allows you to ensure the perceived "strong" candidate is in fact the best, determined through the selection process.
Irrespective of Stone's qualities, surely the club needs to shortlist a number of applicants and have them present their vision and coaching direction for the club.
Fast tracking Stone, irrespective of his actual credentials smacks of "jobs for the boys", run a rigorous selection process and allow the best man to win.
