I'm not convinced this is a good idea. The coaching requirements for SOO seem almost opposite to what you need at a club. Look at Mal Meninga - useless club coach but has the best record of any origin coach. Look at Bellamy - a fantastic record at club coaching, but failed dismally when he coached origin. Much as I admire Laurie Daley as a footballer and a person, what is Deano going to learn off him that will be appropriate as a club coach? If Deano wants to do it, and Flanno is happy for him to take the time off, well so be it. But I don't see that it is any benefit to us.

True.. but Mal Meninga had the assistants smarts around him like Hagan, Henry and ors + the squad to make him look good as a coach. Mal was good at managing personalities and as QLDR legend..
Even Fatty won a the unwinnable SOO series.
Daley coached against some of the best QLD sides ever.
I an not sold on LOZ but he may turn out to be a good SOO coach against a normal QLD side..
Deano may learn something or not but I bet happy to take the $$$

Would much had preferred him busting his guts with the
Dragons , not Daley’s legion of the lost .

What in the name of hell is he going to learn from Laurie Daley ?

No Deanno , you would had been better giving the bloke a polite thank you , but no thanks . Just my 2 bobs worth .

Flanno seems to hold DY in high esteem

Congrats to Deano and good luck. I hope that by the time Origin starts in 2025, Deano would have helped Flanno to get many wins.
"He's the man," Su'A said. "When he first came in he was very tough and straightforward. I like that style.

"I'm pretty close to him now and we have a lot of honest conversations. That was a big reason for my development this year and I feel he'll do a great job [for NSW]. [As a Queenslander], hopefully not too good but I'm excited for him."

Interesting from Su'a, who's done a complete 180 from wanting out after a year under Griffin.

Yes and Flanno said he is where he was 20 years ago, learning under Bellamy.
That means Young is 19 years away from HC at the Dragons.. all good
Reminds me of young people in the workforce. Got all the certificates but no practice experience to back it up and wants to be top dog before earning the right. Imo he needs to take on a Qcup or NSWcup HC role and show what he's capable of before he gets the top Job.

Bellamy and Brett White are also good coaches to learn off. It can only be good for him.

Have they replace the other assistant they had Wolfe? I thought Young's title was Senior Assist coach and Wolfe was the defense coach. I am sure Flanno will get more hands on the days Young is missing and would have given Young his blessing to do so if it was sustainable throughout the season and had not much of an impact to the players.

Has the NSW Rugby League a SOO death wish? Firstly, Mary's name being bandied around again as being on the list of eligibles, then going back to a shaky future with nice guy Loz and now Deano riding to the rescue as ...defence advisor?

Get your money on Billy and his Maroons-they're specials.

Wolfe has gone to the dolphins with his brother. Young is defensive coach & I think Carr is attacking coach.
