Dean Young is the next great NRL coach

Payten's impact in Townsville has been clear as day, taking out Dally M Coach of the Year honours in 2022 and fronting the rebuild of the 2015 NRL premiers.
But in the background for the past two years has been Dean Young, who recently missed out on the vacant St George Illawarra job but has been rumoured to be eyeing off a return to his former club.
Drinkwater revealed the intensity and attitude that Young brings to the Cowboys will hold him in good stead as he continues his coaching career.
“I really enjoy Dean Young – I thought he might have got the Dragons job and in the near future, it won’t be long before he’s a head coach," he said.
"He’s got a great work ethic, he’s in there Monday to Friday in tracksuits and flogging himself at the gym, going in the sauna… he enjoys himself Friday, Saturday and Sunday and then comes in, weighs himself and does it all again.
"I guess when a coach is asking you to do something hard, it’s easy to say it – but when you see them doing something hard as well, you have more respect and you’re willing to do it more.
"Youngy is very smart, he’s got a great knowledge about the game whether its attack or defence, you can go to him and talk to him about those things."

At the end of the day this is the decision that Flanno has made, I'm happy that he is possibly keeping Carr. I said when he got appointed that I would support his decisions to see what he can bring to the club and how good he gets us out of this mess. I'm not interested in anything but seeing this great club become a great club again, how he does it and who he does it with I dont care, just do it !!!

Maybe Young can be the next NSW coach? Prepare him for the NRL.
I like the sound of this. Although despite my doubts on Goodwin and my nepotism claims, he seems to have done well with limited time coaching and I applaud him.

But perhaps he was thrown into the deep end far too early. It's only been one season and our KOE squad is quite good because most of those players should be in place of some the nuffies we have in firsts.

But if Young is going to come back, he better damn well prove that he can coach this time for a full season. I don't care how much he bleeds for the club when it comes down to this - this is coaching, not playing. You need results.

The headline is a bit rich..based on the players noting he works hard in the gym and that he is approachable?
The jury will be out to consider their verdict on that one

Yes he did Draginzar , however I put that down to the players he had at that time and also to the weak Queensland teams who were in a transitional phase after the loss of Smith , Thurston and Slater .

Players who were extremely hard to replace .
It's always the players when they win and the coach when they lose isn't it?

No , that is not the case and one would have to be narrow minded to take that point of view.

Quite simply Fittler seems to lack the ability to inspire his players and at times seems to be non- plussed as to the basic tactics of the game .

However it is good that the boys in blue won and who knows Freddy may keep his job as a result which in turn may change my view of his coaching abilities - not that I’am anyone of consequence . 😳

I can see the combo of Flanno and Young working and Gray and Lawson getting our squad fitter than they have for the past 4 years at least.

A massive thing to have Young return. To leave the Cowboys with their strong squad and having much more success in the past couple of years than the Dragons must mean that he wants to help Flanno get us back up there again.

I hope I am right.

Actually seems like a step in the right direction, bringing in a couple of blokes who've been involved in premiership winning teams. Hopefully Deano can also bring in a few new tricks from his time at the Cowboys.

Our big focus needs to be on FAD - Fitness, Attack, Defence. If we sign up a couple of fit, tough and dependable middle forwards and a couple of speedy backs then we will go a long way to achieving all three.

I'm presuming that the players on board with Dean's return and new performance crew.

Also, with Flanno wanting players to buy in. It's only been a few weeks, but he's delivered a huge upgrade with the player support.
