Young coming back as assistant smells of a deal being done

IMO that will see Kyle end up in the Big Red V

If that does happen then the interests of the St George BOD has been served and the new coach compromised but in return he will get to coach his son.

If it was only about Flanno’s coaching ability then no way Young gets a start in any capacity.
The dragons said they aren't interested in Kyle apparently.

Obviously if Hunt goes we need another half especially seeing Sullivan with another hamstring injury

Mybe who is currently the preferred back up half / hooker over all that play Koe Cup is going so that needs to be covered off.

No obvious high quality players in either of those positions available.

So IMO the club will say something like

We weren’t in the market for a new half and our intention was always to keep Ben at the club as he provided options in both the 7 & 9 jumper

Hiwever despite our best efforts we have come to the realisation that it is in the clubs and Ben’s best interest to let him go

As a result we had to go to market and we needed to find a player who has the versatility that Ben provided so we welcome Kyle to the club.as he has vast experience as a half and has also been developing his skills as a hooker.

As was on display last night - our defence was terrible. That needs to be fixed above everything else. Defence is attitude at the end of the day. This needs a good defensive coach (tick).

We also need "Dragons people". People who have made the sacrifices to pull on that jersey and achieve success (tick).

With the leadership and protection of a great head coach, Dean can go about doing the job we need him to do - in much the same way he, and the other forwards, were asked to do a job on the field back 12 years ago.

The Cowboys have been a good defensive outfit on average the past three seasons.

I applaud this move.

Now to go back and watch the replay of him crashing over the line in the 2010 GF, and his emotions post-game (for about the millionth time - it's probably all we have got at the moment).

Great post, Dean has proven he can be a great defense coach at Cows and this time around he is under a capable coach and wont be hampered by playing Maryball .

I suspect you're right, but I still think Flanagan + Kyle + Deano is much much better than Griffin + Hunt + Woolf.

To learn under a good experienced coach. If Flanno does Young can get a gig elsewhere and apply for a HC role.
And if an opportunity presents itself why would you not come home than live up at Townsville
And Flanno rates Young
That is the positive spin
I hope the smell around around a deal done is way off the mark but our BOD are like fish out of water

So why would he stay at the Cowboys knowing he may not coach for some time? You want him to retire?

Hoping this doesn't happen...

I am hoping that in 2024, Dean Young will be able to get our guys to be better defenders. He would have gained so much experience as Todd Payten's defence coach at the Cowboys and hopefully he and Flanagan will be able to bring a few good players to us from the Townsville club.

We know that Young bleeds red and white and he will be a great mentor to the young ones coming through. Maybe the other assistant will be Carr as the attacking coach, but of course all this is to be confirmed.

Agree 100%.... can't remember a worse Saints team in terms of defense.

We are unfit, slow, unorganized....

Too many marginal first graders .
Love Liddle's effort but he always gets knocked around the head.
Suli is all at sea.
Rava bad reader of numbers.
Some of the forwards fitness is horrendous ,DeBelin can't clean up everything.
Sullivan is a work in progress ,seems to make dumb decisions 50% of the time, dont think he's going to cut it long term.

You're wrong. I want to see Deano back home.

Why ? So him and his dad can do more damage and likely undo any good that Flanno and others try to do.
Once you let these parasites in you'll never get them out again no matter what happens, they'll blame anything and everything on others and run the joint the way they've always planned to. Do you think the Youngs are going to sit back and let Flanno run the show, f**k no they're not. D.Young will eventually become the head coach, prophecy fulfilled and the Dragons won't be playing finals footy for many, many years, just watch.
I'm over it. I knew this was coming and it's an effing disgrace. It's the total opposite of what should be happening, of what needs to happen. I hope Lomax, Sloan, Sullivan, Su'a and others walk, why ruin your career with these losers. Hunt knows what's going on, probably got wind of this latest move and went "hell no, I'm outta here" and who can blame him.

Great defence coach ? The Cowboys were stuck in the bottom 4 or 5 up til a couple of rounds ago (rnd 16) and only a couple of big wins has lifted them above that - but still out of the 8. They average 22 points against which is more than double what you might consider "great defence" and that's with arguably a top 4 roster. I mean look at their team, that forward pack is to die for.
There's nothing great about D.Young as we're about to witness first hand for the next 10 years or so - after which point he'll likely be appointed to the board.
His appointment stinks. Nepotism stinks, mainly I assume because it usually involves a couple of turds.

Agree again with your comments dragonreddy. I'd like to see another two forwards doing as much work as JDB and as effectively as him. If we had another two of JDB's, defending on the edges and him in the middle, then I'd imagine our defence will be so much better.

My big concern with Sullivan is that he is subject to having injuries too often, especially hamstring ones. Being injured a lot makes the team lack in cohesion and consistency and set plays not being executed perfectly with the other players. I wonder if he is capable of changing the course of the game in our favour and be a danger to the opposition and if he can consistently organise the attack effectively. A lot more improvement is needed with his defence as well.

We need players to go the distance and with a lot more in the tank not just to play flat out for 80 minutes, but beyond. Hopefully, the new fitness guy will help in this regard.
