Why ? So him and his dad can do more damage and likely undo any good that Flanno and others try to do.
Once you let these parasites in you'll never get them out again no matter what happens, they'll blame anything and everything on others and run the joint the way they've always planned to. Do you think the Youngs are going to sit back and let Flanno run the show, f**k no they're not. D.Young will eventually become the head coach, prophecy fulfilled and the Dragons won't be playing finals footy for many, many years, just watch.
I'm over it. I knew this was coming and it's an effing disgrace. It's the total opposite of what should be happening, of what needs to happen. I hope Lomax, Sloan, Sullivan, Su'a and others walk, why ruin your career with these losers. Hunt knows what's going on, probably got wind of this latest move and went "hell no, I'm outta here" and who can blame him.
You have a crystal ball, well done. Dean Young could be the best coach we've ever had. We don't know yet.

I think Dean Young as an assistant is a great call. Dean has proved himself as a great assistant at the Cowboys the last few years. Think the group could do with someone like Dean that bleeds red and white. He did everything for that jersey and I hope some of that can rub off on the players

I don’t think Dean Young even really desires becoming the Dragons head coach as much as everyone else thinks. He just wants to see the Dragons succeed. If the role is available he would apply because he thinks he could the job but I think he just wants the Dragons to do well. Hence why he’s moved back to be an assistant coach at the first chance possible. If Flanagan is successful and our coach for the next 10 years I could see Young staying his assistant the whole time. He wouldn’t even entertain taking a head coaching job elsewhere even though he would be seen as one of the best coaches in waiting

FMD people saying we need DY because he’s a Dragon’s man at heart bla bla bla

Carr, Johnston, Young Snr, Reddy, Doust, Black, Mc Fookknuckle etc are all supposedly Dragons at heart some bleeding for the club on the paddock some much more than DY so how did they all turn out for us?

Being a long standing club person is no prerequisite for you to be proficient in any role.

Only results indicate how you have performed and there is nothing to suggest that DY will be any better as an AC than any of those I mentioned above in the roles they performed.

There are plenty of proven options for assistant coach that have better credentials / skills than DY and they don’t have to have been at this club to perform those skills for this club.

Flanagan is damaged goods and severe compromised by having DY here day 1

2 years down the track would have been understandable providing the Cowboys perform well especially in defence but day 1 smells of an albatross around the coaches neck.

Already people saying it’s a long haul back and so much to do etc etc which provides ample coverage for under performing and time to mount a challenge against a HC that falters under the pressure.

Reeks of manipulation of the highest Dragons kind.

Agree as I have said before , many times as long as daddy is still around the club , he was always coming back ....... I still feel there is something not right with the Flanno appointment (not for it or against it ) , but how could they have done a complete back flip on him , he was already at the club and did not want him to take over when things went pear shaped with Hook ...... Just my opinion , I think it could have been part of the deal to have Dean as assistant ....... Anyway lets wait and see how it all pans out , lets hope the build starts well ......

sharing misgivings about Dean Youngs return also ...

not buying the talk that his return is the fulfilment of his destiny as a dragon's legend, he left the club despite being offered an AC role with Griffin. He served as AC without glory under McGregor in 2015. Not sure how any of this is favourable for his automatic return.

DY played with heart and determination despite lots of injuries but tbh fairly limited ability.
He does certainly fulfill the prerequisites of being a good club man as have many that went with him and before him but none of that gives you any head-start or leg up compared to anyone else when comes to being employed by the club.

Lance Thompson more than met all the requirements of a good clubman and in the end what did he get for that great service?

Why do people think D Y is more deserving?

By all means stay away and learn your trade and then apply for a role that you have demonstrated clearly that you have the necessary skills to perform.

Let’s look at this without the bias of the nepotism tag. Young won a comp on one leg. One of Bennet’s all time favourite players - thats from a guy who has coached over 900 games. Played a big part in helping turn the Cowboys around last year. Already highly regarded by fellow coaches. Went outside the organisation to further his learning and gain outside experience when he could probably have very easily scored a “job for the boys”. In comparison, Lance Thompson dId what exactly?
If Flanagan thinks Young is the right guy for the job to help turn this sh$tshow around, then that’s good enough for me.

If you don’t know what Lance Thompson did for this club and how he was treated at the end then you don’t know very much at all.

For the record D Y did get a job for the boys and failed at it and after 3 years out is straight back in.

Bennett said Henjak & Chinless would make great coaches so how good were those predictions?

St George have a long and proud history of producing great clubmen. But as we all know a great student does not automatically make a great teach and a great player also does not necessarily make a great coach.

CY and DY have been paid well for their work over the years. It is time that only the best man for the job is selected at St George Illawarra.

In my opinion Hasler was the best available for the head coach job with Flanno being the next in line. From where I sit, Dean Young was never in the race

I’m aware of what happened with Thompson and the club. Don’t really care. That stuff happens all the time. If the current board was just as ruthless we might have a better football team to support. You also might want to check out some facts about his behaviour in that final year, particularly regarding threats sent to teammates before you get all weepy about a guy who had his contract terminated by mutual agreement… And before you start, don’t bother bringing up the “he took a pay cut” nonsense - sure he did - because he knew his asking price was going down - even the Sharks rejected him at first until they came to terms on a much lower price in line with his value as a player at the time…..
Thommo was a reliable and hard working player who admittedly played with a lot of heart. We have one of those now, Blake Lawrie. I’m meh on him too. I’d rather have winners.

P.s very tragic circumstances about his death at a young age though, that was truly very sad.

I’ve never heard the story about his threats to his teammates. Obviously had issues going on in his head.😩😩

You are missing the point.

Being a great clubman should count for nothing when it comes to getting on the payroll at the club.

In Young's case it did, should never have and yet again people are pushing that same barrow for his recall to the club.

f**k him the best person available for the job should be the one chosen and no sweetheart deals while they're at it.
