Pleading ignorance doesn't change the facts...I thought you'd have learned that long ago. You want the backing sources? Read the damn forum, they're all there.

n law, defamation (also called calumny, libel (for written words), slander (for spoken words), and vilification) is the communication of a statement that makes a claim, expressly stated or implied to be factual, that may give an individual, business, product, group, government or nation a negative image. It is usually, but not always,[1] a requirement that this claim be false and that the publication is communicated to someone other than the person defamed (the claimant).

I think you - and the LU moderators should have a look at this section to see if your statements, are in fact beach of the laws of libel.
Your post concerning DF states that it is FACTUAL, when you have no proof or source to back it up.
That to me constitutes libel, as it paints DF as a negative image and derelict in his duty.
As I said, I am not a lawyer. I would not like my business acumen brought into disrepute because you repeat and post something you think is true.
I am not posting this to be vindicative, just posting it to warn you to be careful. I may be wrong, but it has a 'libel stink' about it to me.
Maybe Bigfella might have a better interpretation on it than me, because hey, I'm just a hypocrite because I stick up for my mates....
AND I agree with your statement Pleading ignorance doesn't change the facts remember that in a court case.....

The post in question has been moderated by the Eels mod team. The mods do their best getting to read all posts promptly, in what is a busy time for the forums as a whole, given Matty John's current "popularity" and the potential for libel in that issue.

The best way to draw attention to a problem post that may be deemed libellious is to use the report function
report.gif
button at the tope of a post, which alerts mods and admins immediately by email to those posts members are highlighting as a priority to consider.

Cheers ;-)

Expressing opinion is not defamatory, as you should know and be greatful for.

Thanks mate, I am GRATEFUL but, just a word of warning - I think you want to check your legal facts about whether expressing an opinion is defamatory or not. There is NO freedom of speech, and don't kid yourself there is.
As Bazal posted..... Pleading ignorance doesn't change the facts
(But hey, Who's that yonder dressed in black....Go Tell it on the mountain)

Don't have to check the legal facts champ, I know full well from experience that an expressed personal "opinion" can not be deemed defamatory. There is a big difference between saying "I think" he's an idiot and "he is an idiot", one is merely a personal opinion whereas the other is considered a statement of fact.

BTW, thanks for the spelling lesson ole fella

Thanks for the reply buddy...
Yeah but the original post by Mr Fawltydid not express the first sentiment. He posted it as a statement of fact, to which the moderators changed to 'alleged'..
I would hate to see a kid like Bazal hit hard in his pocket for his obvious passionate support of a football Club. Especially on a popular forum like this, and especially in a court of law where 'pleading ignorance doesn't change the facts.'
I didn't correct your spelling...just made sure mine was right....

No, no prancing about by me. Just pointing out a few things I observed need to be pointed out. If I was wrong..change them back to how they were. No problem to me. Would you prefer that I didn't..If so, please advise Bart and Gregory as well as me. I thought I was doing the LU forum and Bazal a favour.
Fitzy probably needs the extra cash he could pick up...

Is Tullio Denis Fitzgerald's defamation lawyer? ;-)

Why should I do their job... In hindsight, I should have said nothing and let the matter take its course.... Now that would have been VINDICATIVE......
