See, you can't just say "This dude is better than your entire genre of music" because it fails to take into account subgenres.

Below is a small list of metal subgenres:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_heavy_metal_genres

Now, this barely touches the surface because, for example, it lists death metal as a subgenre but there are another 10 or so sub-subgenres within death metal - melodic death, gore, traditional etc.

So, when you say [insert name] is better than death metal, are you referring to a band like Nile or a band like In Flames? They're both death metal but they have nothing whatsoever in common:

You know, metal and classical are the two most closely linked genres of music you can find ...

Likewise you can't do the same for hip hop/rap considering the numerous styles and genres. When you make your smiley face towards rap/hip hop are you referring to Tupac or Kanye West? Both can be classed as rap/hip hop but are completely different styles.

See how we could have this amazingly boring circular argument?

Circular yes, boring? Well we're both still posting ...

As for Tupac and Kanye, they both fit comfortably into the 'turd' genre.

I can't stand hip hop/rap either but the great thing about music is it's in the eye of the beholder. You can watch that Immortal clip and see something fantastic while I sit there thinking how anyone can get any enjoyment from that mash of sound. But if you don't want your own genre to be pigeon holed then don't pigeon hole others.
