Did I Hear Supercoach Correctly??

Just saw Super-Coach (Hagan) on TV talking about the healthy situation at the club, and how Abes can't get out of premier league because of the present depth we have (gotta laugh at that, cause he is nowhere near ready) then he came out with "Had Tolar been fit, he would've probably found himself in premier league as well" I find that statement incredible to say the least, and confirms my pleasure at his departure. Dan Tolar has been far and away our best performer off the bench this year, and in fact one of our best performing forwards, to suggest he'd have the present bench and not find a place for Tolar is just beyond belief. No wonder we have seen the departure of so many promising young players if that's the sort of attitude they've put up with.

Surely by now what comes out of supercoaches mouth shouldn't surprise you Tony.

I just find it amusing that now Smith has quit the Eels, and Hagan is rolling along here with us at 2nd, the general consensus around the league fraternity is that the sun shines out of his ar$e, and the club has made a huge mistake dumping him. Then he comes out with that tonight. The reason we are sitting 2nd is because Johns is fit, not because supercoach has done anything spectacular, and that statement just shows it.

Perhaps he's hoping to lure Tolar off to the Eels at season end by placing the idea that he'd be held back at the Knights?

Do we have an update on when Tolar will be back? He was showing some great form before injury took him out.

And don't forget that Hages doesn't coach the side. He just names it on Tuesday and lets Joey do the coaching for the rest of the week.

You're right, it's a bit of an eyeopener. Dan Tolar has been one of our best this season, after improving immeasurably last year. To think he was, about two years ago, considered a real prospect of being "let go". He was barely a premier leaguer at one stage -- in the same era as Tilse. Now look at him -- he's arguably in our top 4 props (unless you're the coach) and making himself known to more people than just Knights fans.

Tolar is a good solid performer who doesn't get much recognition. But he has impressed some fans here, which is good. It's unfortunate he hasn't done enough to earn the praise of Mr Hagan -- and yet less-performing players are automatic selections in his side.

I'm disappointed Hagan does not consider Dan Tolar a genuine first grader. I respectfully disagree.

Well, he's sort of right. Tolars been one of the best, but looking at the squad its really hard to find a spot for him. I guess leave out Davico.

8. Smith
9. Buderus
10. Perry
11. Simpson
12. Newton
13. Lowrie (instead of Tanner and until Abes finds some good form)
--
14. Davico
15. Tolar
16. Woolnough
17. Brown

Drop Tanner for Tolar basically IMO.

I think you've made a pretty fair assessment there Jono and while I don't think Tanner has done anything in particular to warrant him being dropped I feel Lowrie offers more in attacking flair than Tanner at this point.

I would definately hope to see a bench in the near future with Davico, Woolnough and Tolar nicely rounding out a full strength starting side including Perry, Newton and possibly Abraham (should he recover and regain pre-injury form).

3 big props is way too many. Knights are already having problems getting through a 80 minutes game and you want more big guys?

They are the best available players to get the job done so that is what id go with..

Plus I just noticed I left Reynoldson out.. Owell probably through him at Lock and Lowrie to bench and then Brown to PL.

For their size I believe that Woolnough and Tolar are pretty mobile.

Personally I'd use Smith and Perry for the crash and barge during the first 20 then bring on Woolnough and Davico to keep up the intensity with added offload factor then probably use Tolar as a cross between front and 2nd row depending on how the game is playing out.

I like the idea of having one of the younger props partnering a senior prop (eg, Perry and Smith, Woolnough and Davico). I believe that giving Tolar as much opportunity this year will serve us better once Smith retires in that next season we could possibly start with Perry and Davico then bring on Woolnough (who should be at starting prop standard) with Tolar as a complimentary style player with possibly Snowden or White on the bench.

If Michael Hagan takes Dan Tolar's place in the side away, then the Newcastle administration should take Hagan's place in the side away.

Our future coach is already available. Hagan would not be missed.

Forgot Kirk Reynoldson or just didn't add him in?

You don't need 3 props on the bench thats just a waste. I agree with Hagan, tolar has played well but i would rather have woolnough and davico.
