Huh? Is that girl a fascist? The article seems to be something to do with World Cup TV coverage but I can't really work out what it's trying to say, she's campaigning for better coverage or something? Have the French WC TV rights even been announced yet?

From google translate what I gather is that some members of the FN are petitioning for better treatment for League by the sports ministry, and trying to get better coverage in mainstream French TV. And it tries to tie in the current treatment to the historical (vichy) treatment of league there...

So... from what I guess: fair play to them for petitioning, hope they get somewhere (or better still a more sane party petitions too and something improves) - just a shame its the FN.

Hi All, My French is not fluent... however my reading of this article is a little different.

Marion Le Pen (who is the grand daughter of Jean-Marie Le Pen BTW) is a politician in Vaucluse and a supporter of Rugby a Treize in Avignon.

She is commenting on the upcoming RLWC and in general on the treatment that RL gets compared to RU and uses the Vichy supression as an example of a reason why these double standards apply.

I wouldnt say this represents the official adoption of RL promotion as a policy of the NF, it reads more as a personal appeal by someone.. who unfortunately in this case may well be viewed as 'eccentric' to say the least.. She is 'Southern' (in as much as she represents the south... ,she is a NF deputy from a family synonymous with NF and more 'extreme' politics ..

Not a bad politician to have on your side. The way the big two parties have fallen out of favour, FN might even be in power come 2017.

I also find it quite amusing and ironic that her grandfather was a notorious Holocaust denier, yet here she is talking about Vichy and the Occupation.

She's calling for the World Cup to be broadcast properly in France. Particularly the two games France will host.

She may be a facist , but she's our facist ;-)

Thus the dilemma. Whilst she is certainly easier on the eye than Pauline Hanson, the politics of her party are somewhat similar. You can imagine how that would go down, especially the many league players from northern africa.

She has effectively put the federation in a particularly delicate situation.

She is very difficult to ignore completely however: http://tiny.cc/z045ww

Miguel there are certain things in life more important than league(and I hate to say that)like trying to get your country back on track.About 22% of the electorate voted for her in the last election so a word from her would be great for our game.
Certainly agree that she would be hard to ignore.

FN's heartland though is the south (more south-east) which is both quinze and treize territory. Go too hard on the RL message and you risk alienating the union majority.

There is plenty wrong with it and to suggest anything different is completely ignorant.

Suggest you get your old high school history books to look at the problems groups like this cause.

Support from a political party of this nature is the last thing RL needs anywhere in the world.

Stuff the union majority. It's guys like you that hold our game back with that kind of thinking.
Also look at the situation in the UK, with people being scared to speak out.

As this is a League forum I'll resist the temptation to go in deep with that; but on things that matter far more than sport, the FN still has a lot going wrong with it imo. As do the similar nationalists across europe.

Marion Marshal Le Pen wants rugby league in clearNews Media Rugby Rugby League All News - May 15, 2013
Surprising that media outlet has offered Marion Marshal Le Pen, on the site of his party the National Front. The FN member of Vaucluse, is expected to terrain such as employment, security, immigration, then handed the sports minister asking him to explain the absence of clear television broadcasts of rugby ... XIII, this discipline is now widely publicized by beIN Sport, but not enough for his taste of France Televisions, as we approach the World Cup. Discipline that radiates especially in the region and defend can only make the most popular elected to the population. And the Federation, we do not complain of this support.

"A few months before the start of the World Cup this fall, so the deputy wrote on the site of FN, two games will be held in France (Avignon and Perpignan), the way that discipline is handled in the audiovisual public and in the French sports landscape is particularly unfavorable in comparison to rugby. Indeed, none of these two games will be broadcast on France Television antenna group, no more than have been the championship final of France or the Coupe de France. Rugby league is a separate discipline, telegenic and offering more dynamic than the rugby game, she meets a lot of interest in the world (Australia, Britain, New Zealand), but also in France, especially in areas of the South East, as Vaucluse. She continues, unfortunately, suffer from a ban by the Vichy regime, which favored the XV fact, as noted by the report of the Committee Azéma presented in March 2002 at the request of the Minister Marie-George Buffet. It is surprising indifference suffered a sport that gave France two world titles (1951 and 1955) and several titles of European Champion (1939, 1947, 1951, 1952, 1977, 1981, 2005). Mrs. Marshal Le Pen asks Madam Minister about his intentions to support the team of France and the French Federation of Rugby League in the context of the World Cup and whether it will upgrade the discipline. "

Contacted, the executive secretary of the French Federation of Rugby League, Philippe Dallongeville welcomes this support with satisfaction.

"We do not make policy, the development of our sport that drives us every day. Then receive support or a registered interest of the Republic elected, whether FN or another party, I consider it rewarding and respectable. All supports are good to take.

Now, I disagree with the opposition that we do with rugby, I do not see the need to oppose because the comparison is also valid with any other more publicized than ours sports. Today, it's all football. But it will quickly become disillusioned because of disciplines such as ours also contribute to the development of young people, their education, and it should not be overlooked.

Mrs. Marshal Le Pen calls for more TV exposure for clear XIII therefore going in the right direction. And I find much to address the issue by linking it with the approach of the World Cup that badly important to us is measured. France will host two meetings in effect including a France - New Zealand, November 1st at Avignon. New Zealand, world champion title! It will sell out. But at the time I speak, we still know no official broadcaster in France pure such match or competition. We had the chance recently that Team 21 broadcasts the final championship of France. Last year, France Télévisions, the regional network of France 3 had broadcast games that were very well with 400,000 viewers to the station. And of course there beIN Sport this season for ESPN. Our sport is spectacular, dynamic, fun to watch. I guess if Ms. Marshall's Pen calls the Minister, it may answer him. Especially that we are part of the Ministry federations met because we do our job properly. "
