Disallowed try v Storm

Messages

Bit of help please.. I only saw the first half outta the corner of my eye while working, anyway, I'm sure very early in the match I saw a Storm player drop the ball cold and a Shark player score what I thought was going to be a try, only for it to be disallowed/called back.

So far I haven't been able to find it on any highlights/match report. What happened?

ref pulled it up because he said that it wasn't a proper play of the scrum when in fact the replay showed that he said IT WAS.
(sorry if that doesn't make sense, trying to think of a better way to phrase it.)

One of the refs called 'out' so the sharks broke from the scrum, smashed the storm dude and scored. The other ref called it back, saying the sharks broke too early. Not the best advertisement for 2 refs...

I love how we don't get the shits anymore when we get caned by the refs. Years gone by we have a cry and let in 40. Now we just crack on and f**king win despite the merkins.

And later that half we drop it and we spread it wide to score in the corner, only for it to be called back for a forward pass.

You were probably referring to the first one but it may have been that incident.

They both seemed like 50/50 calls to me that could easily have gone our way. I bet the first one with the drop ball from the scrum will be talked about "in house" by the referees as it looked like there was a complete break down of communication between the two refs. Even if they never admit it, they f***ked up in some way, shape or form on that one.

Probably why it didn't go to the video, that would have emphasised their stuff up.

Lewis got penalised for a leg pull in a tackle.
Replay shows he didn't even touch the dudes legs
In fact it was just a normal tackle
The dude sort slipped a little trying to get up quick.
I would've blown up
Lewie just got back into position

Both 50/50 calls - but we must make bet on red both occasions and it came up black - like all games nil consistency

Watching the replay of the Bird forward pass I am convinced that he passed the ball backwards out of his hands. Beale was behind him when he passed the ball and Bird was still in front of him when Beale caught it. Although the ball floated forward it was a fair pass under the rules.

I also watched cam closely and he threw at least 3 which were more forward than birds one.

Cheers lads. Yep, noticed all those others also. Agree with this summation (no surprise). Ruling no-try and calling back for the scrum mix-up was the ref's balls up. It's gonna happen to all teams. Great to see our positive response.

Re: forward pass - I thought the Bird final pass was forward. Bird/Beale combination probably needs a bit more time to develop. Also, not really valid to compare this against Smith's or any other forward pass ruling. Especially when it hasn't directly lead to a scoring opportunity.

Re: dropped ball - rulings seem to now penalise dropping the ball, like touch footy, unless they undeniably travel backwards. Storm had a dropped 'down' called for dropped forward. I don't really have a problem with this, if applied consistently. Big if.

The Lewis 'penalty' was a typical bitch-slap to consistency and common-sense.

so the scrum
I have the distinct feeling that the storm held the ball up because of the try last week Newcastle scored
it was a tactic as they did it even after we smashed that dude.

the reff yelled out.
should have been a try. was a try.

we then also did the hold the ball up thing.

Don't get this. The reality is that refs let marginal passes go at dummy half a bit but it should be irrelevant when it happens. The touchie who was right in line seemed happy enough with it.

I'm happy to let the marginal ones go in general, but I made a point of watching after the bird forward pass and cam threw a couple and one longer one in particular that was worse than birds.

My wife likes it that I don't get the shits anymore when we get bad calls against us.

The ref didn't just yell out once, he did it twice. Amazing. Can't believe it didn't get reviewed (if possible).
Graham was also flawed in the second half with a shoulder charge off the ball. Couldn't be reviewed by the bunker because it wasn't deemed as a reportable offence. I'm sure shoulder charges are reportable. Should have been a penalty almost in front.

Vunivalu got two in a row from terrible play the balls, I was filthy at both decisions, Sharks just got back in the line (Lewis is such a professional).

I think we get hard done by (which fan doesn't think that of their team?), but let's be honest, we do sail close to the wind. It is part of the defensive intensity we apply to oppositions, and if it results in some lopsided penalty counts in the regular season, it gives us a big advantage in finals when penalty counts are lower, and our team is hardened and ready for intense matches, but is not letting the opposition out of their half.

I would have given both tries! but I'm a tad biased, they weren't "howlers", and they were off Storm errors rather than well constructed attack (though from good defensive pressure). It would have been frustrating to lose to two fumbled bombs in the in goal, when we could have been given tries from their fumbles, but thankfully it didn't turn out that way.

In the end, I thought we were the better team, and I'm confident that we can match the Storm (not saying we will always win, as I think our contests will usually be close, but the "Storm juggernaut" definitely halts against us).

I was also disappointed by that first (non) try off the scrum, Channel Nein blokes also puzzled that it was called back, but didn't carry on about it much. The Bird pass was 50/50 to me. Agree with everyone's comments that the team aren't bothered by refereeing decisions, great frame of mind to be in.

The ref called out twice.

The other one then blew a penalty and they both looked at each other like what the f**k just happened.

Terrible two ref system.

What about Bellamy in the box.

They kept showing his horrible head trying to get the usual shot of him cracking one - but he was just stone faced.

He knew.

At one stage he left his seat and was walking circles at the back of the coaches box.

He knows.

He is flannos bitch.

And he dont like that slap.

Absolutely reportable, Chambers has been charged by the Match Review Panel for the hit.
