Not sure they do, not on big money anyway.

There's always someone in lower grades who can slot straight in anyway

Not really. But I’m not convinced Panthers “need” anyone aside from maybe Cleary. I say that in the sense of you can probably take either one of their spine out and they’d still be favourites to win the comp.
They didn’t seem at all out of touch when he was out for a few weeks tbh.

No. They don't need him. He's good for us..but I would back Daine Laurie to do a decent job at 6 for us at a fraction of the cost.

Cogger and SOS looked like nobodies before our system and did a good job in it. Laurie grew up in our system and looked good at 6 for Tigers. He deserves a premiership with us now too.

Penrith don;t need him purely for his onfield ability as a player.

But if Penrith lose Luai, it is like ripping a part of the soul out of the club. Culturally the Panthers would never be the same, and culture is all the difference with this squad.

As the King Eshay his departure would leave the other Eshays lost, confused, and genuinely considering being nice humans

I think Luai was playing injured last night, but they certainly improved when Cogger came on, they started playing straighter and Nathan was on both sides.

Having said that, when Jarome plays straight he is awesome.

Don't think there's another player on that team that encapsulates who and what Penrith are more than the king of the eshays.

Plus he should remember that $800,000 goes a lot further there than in the wanky suburbs

Having met the entire squad they are all nice humans and generally very humble. Only Luai is questionable because of his exuberance and the way he gets antagonistic toward haters. He is actually a pretty swell guy - it is funny how the media can twist the perceptions of casuals and neutrals toward hating a player.

I agree with this. Laurie wasn’t close to the player Luai is at 6 for us, but when he has better players around him and isn’t just thrown the ball and told to try and create something, he can excel. Losing Cleary, Edwards, Leota or Fisher-Harris would be a bigger blow.

Think he does an excellent job of that himself

Capewell. Burton. Kikau. Korisau. Leniu. Crichton. Luai? At some point letting players like these go is going to bite them. It's a wonder it hasn't yet.

Also Penrith's next half in the production queue was nicked by us, so it might not be the best time to let a player as good as Luai go.

Not exactly ‘letting them go’.

Laurie returns next year and most likely will be playing five eighth in the NSW Cup, with Longi at fullback.

Now hypothetically, if Laurie kills it at NSW Cup and Penrith are struggling to replace Crichton, could a left field option occur with Luai moving to the centres and Laurie playing alongside N. Cleary at five eighth?

I remember Laurie played against the Dragons at five eighth for the Tigers and there were some good touches from him in that game.

I could imagine Laurie improving in a better system and surrounded with better players.
