God it's difficult sometimes.

It's irrelevant what people want, fans, clubs. What does matter is money.

Does having Folau in RL bring more money or take money away from RL.

Sponsors. Sponsors are already up in arms about his comments and QANTAS have made a statement that they will "watch cloesly" the outcome of Unions investigation. Clearly a threat that if the right choice isn't made, they will review their sponsorship.

Bringing Folau to RL will likely upset sponsors of whatever side he goes to, and possibly lose money.

Politics matter.

Union rip up Folau's contract and RL are going to bring him in. Not a chance. Media would have a field day, and with their issues already over the off season and this year they are not going to do that.

I've noticed that opinion is divided regarding the termination of Israel Folau's contract tonight. Most of Folau's supporters cite that there is no more “freedom of speech”. Funny enough, most Fraser Anning supporters claim exactly the same thing regarding his comments about the Christchurch massacre.

Im not going to go into the the rights and wrongs of what both men said. What I will get into is this bullshit notion that freedom of speech is dead in our society. Freedom of speech is NOT dead in regards to either case. Both men have the absolute freedom to say what they said and not get in trouble with the law for it. Neither got arrested, charged etc.

As I pointed out to a friend of mine tonight, while both men are free to say what they like....this does not free or absolve them from the consequences of what they said.

For people who defend Folau's or Anning's public statements, I want you to do something for me. When you go back to work tomorrow or next week, go to your workplace and openly say to your colleagues, clients and customers things like “All gays must die in hell” and “Homos are evil” and keep on saying it despite your employer telling you not to (as in Folau's case). See how long you last in your job before you are escorted off the premises for good.

Of course, the vast majority of people would not do this because they know that it is socially unacceptable behaviour. Why behave like that in the first place? Love one another people....life is too short for anything else.

The ARU, NRL and society, need to take a stand against people who dont follow the standardised conventional way of thinking.

sure, we can allow rapists, and women bashers, and drink drivers, drug cheats and abusers and allow people who systematically rort the very system that keeps our game fair become immortals.

but lets cast out and alienate a bloke who posted a meme about not liking gay people..

good on everyone, you're all making a real difference

I love the 'free speech' argument f**king dummies raise because they want to hear out bigot opinions.

Here's why the whole 'free speech' argument is complete bullshit.

Imagine if any person of any standing said "I want to f**k children". Are you 'free speech' defenders going to start defending that? No, of course you're not. Because you're bigots, not paedophiles, presumably.

Oh like what James Gunn did. And he was defended to the point of getting his job back.

Yep, no folks ever got offended pre-2000.

Except for the people who duelled with pistols when someone called them a name. Or the people who punched a bloke for insulting them. Or the people who went around bashing homosexuals because they were offended by them. or literally every human being since the invention of language

Folau is a f**kwit.

I mean, I get it...this is outright offensive.

But there's no doubt it my mind that people are generally way more easily offended today.

How can any NRL club sign him? He’s an enormous liability - after the last bigoted outburst the Waratahs and Wallabies lost a host of sponsors and he was told to keep his opinions to himself.

Then he did it again.

Does any club really want a known bigot on their books who is definitely going to have an outburst at some point that will cost them money?

This.

I don't understand how an NRL club thinks he won't be a relations issue at their joint.

Journalism has basically been reduced to trawling 'celebrity' social media

The freedom of speech argument is flawed because Folau’s bigoted views are still infact out there, freely on his social media pages.

I am pretty sad for the poor young kids who may be trying to come to grips with their sexuality and someone that they idolise continually tells them that they will go to hell.
